The Mandrake is a wonderful play. It works on so many levels that I find something new in it every time I read or see it. I have not read every play ever written, so I can’t vouch for it’s status as ‘the best’ or even what it’s spot would be on the top 2,000 list, but I know that it is powerful and can be particularly topical in the world we are living in today.

Anything by Shakespeare should be a good bet, but finding an obscure play and bringing it into the light with excellent flair should impress your drama teacher more. Something by a playwright that not many people know of, like Sharon Pollack or something. (We just did a play by her, called Blood Relations, it's the story sort of, of Lizzie Borden. That could also be one to check out.)

Anything by Arthur Miller, I love All My Sons, simple charecters, basic plot, very owerful and timely. The Crucible, sadly still an important piece, and of course the classic Death of a Salesman, the American Dream, middle class aspirations, the futility and cruelity of capitolism, good stuff.

How about one of the plays from the famous playwright, William Shakespeare? My personal favorite is Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer's Night Dream. Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shakespeare's_plays and scroll down to "plays" to see his other famous works.
