Hands down Notre Dame is the most famous college football program of all time. You have the movie Rudy, and of course the national media bias towards them. Most people will have an opinion on Notre Dame football, love or hate. Some of the other top programs in no specific order; Ohio State, Oklahoma, Nebraska, USC, Michigan, Bama, Texas, PSU.

Here's a list of what I believe is the most heralded college football programs based on popularity, wins and NFL prospects over the past 10 years or so:
1. Notre Dame
2. Florida State
3. Miami, FL
4. Southern California
5. Texas
6. Ohio State
7. Oklahoma
8. Michigan
9. Penn State

well, Notre Dame is the most famous, but if you want some other strong programs here they are:
1.USC (expensive, though)
2.Auburn or Alabama (pretty good schools for football, though i think Auburn's better)
3.Ohio State (there up in the Top a lot, u know)
4. Texas (they won last year, didn't they)

Notre Dame is the most famous. They are the Yankees of college football; pure evil, but for some reason lots of poor sucks love 'em.
Michigan, by the way, is the winningest college football program.

The answer, I'm Sure, depends on what part of the country you ask it in or get answers from. Based upon past history and performance I would vote for either Notre Dame or Alabama (the days of Bear Bryant). Still there are many storied programs and no doubt others would have arguments.
