volume of rectangular solid = length * width * height

Quantity is the matter in an object. Unit is something that measures the quantity. eg. 5 kg - 5 is the quantity, kg is the unit. (this might not be entirely correct, and this is according to my limited knowledge)

Derived measurement - http://www.shokhirev.com/nikolai/projects/popsci/measurements.html
Scroll down to the subheading of "Direct and indirect measurements."

Good luck

Y'know, hon, you'll get a lot of better answers if you ask this in the MATHEMATICS category.
