Ew...why? Oh, why? Are you looking for an effective way to punish your children--feeding them asparagus? Ha ha...just kidding! :)
You should look at your local gardening center. Surely, if your town is not so big, you can find these at nearby larger towns. Also, you can order many plants via mail or websites.
Maybe you could ask a neighbor or a friend if he wouldn't mind digging you up some of his for you to transplant.
If it survives the winter, you will maybe get your first harvest next year. It seems that your children will at least have a year to learn how to behave themselves to escape the asparagus. Just kidding again! :)

go to your local garden centre or nursery and talk to them. Asparagus require a little more effort than most vegetables to get started, but the results will be lifelong.
you might not be able to get before winter, and you won't be able to start havesting before next year
