Any old chevy with a carburated small block in it. So many people have done it that the parts are very cheap and readily availible.

Honda CRX. The 1989-1991 models are the best. It comes in 3 versions: SI, DX, and HF. SI is the one you want because its motor is the best. Any Civic is good though, and they've been modified 6 ways from Sunday. The most performance parts you will find are for Honda Civics. Hondas are easy to work on too, because of the way they are built.

hondas by far. civics are the least expensive and they make DOZENS of parts for them things
