Been riding motorcycles since I was 16 and am now 65. Never an accident untill June 18 this year. Around 9:20pm and going about 50 to 55 mph I hit a big doe dead on. It was a very loud BAM and then lot's of scraping noises. I had no time to hit the brakes or swerve as I was looking in the rearview mirror and when I looked ahead the deer was about 10 feet in front of me. I "think" I instinctively ducked down behind the windshield which was stripped off the VTX when the mounting straps sheared off. People in car following me said the deer went up and over me and hit the ground about the same time the bike hit the ground and started the long slide on the crash bars and the saddle bags.
The impact mashed the front fender down onto the front wheel which locked it up and the rubber skid markes were about 35 feet long before the bike flopped over first on the left side; slid about 25 feet and then flipped upright and over onto the right side and slid for about 15 feet. So far it's cost $1,700 to fix everything except for the three dents in the gas tank which I will have done this winter. Deer was killed instantly and I would have been too but for the helmut (dot & snell rated).
On the ambulance ride to the hospital another call came in about another biker hitting a deer and the EMT said the rider was DOA at the scene. It was a warm night so no leathers and the results were - massive road rash to both legs from the knees down and the same for both arms from the elbows to wrists - back of hands scraped up bad - came down hard mostly on the left side and 4 ribs were cracked/broken and trauma to left side of leg up near hip area. It's hard to believe all the deer being hit by bikes..Until you hit one.
PS- Ambulance ride - $1,023.00
Emergency Room Doctor - was about $235.00
Hospital Bill was in excess of $5,300.00
Bike repair will end up costing me about $2,000.00 in the end.

Well....I was riding along some back road on my way home from school when I rounded a corner and noticed a furry spot on the road. What I remember most about hitting the deer was flying through the air and looking down at it as it was staring up at me.I blacked out when I hit the road, and awoke to a lady standing almost over top of me SCREAMING...."he's covered in blood!!"Needless to say I blacked out again(why would you do that to someone??)I awoke to the EMT's scraping me off the road.I guess the good news(not for the deer) was the fact that the majority of the blood was from the deer.A broken colar bone, fractured pelvis, 2 broken ribs, and alot of stiches later......I still ride every chance I get;)

Ask for horror stories....................................you will get them.
Totalled my bike on a car.
white car
white hair
glasses
female driver
Took out her fender, windshield, hood, and I didn't care what else.
She pulled out from 10-15 behind the stop line, without looking in either direction, as I was about to make a right turn in front of her.
Removed my windshield with my chest, and twisted the rest of the bike badly. I wasn't injured seriously, just enough to lose my job.
I got up, I walked away, and I RODE the pretzle home.
(After the required visit to the ER)
Then there was this wind storm one November that dropped a 2 ft diameter pine tree across the road.................... I hit it.
Long story short, I'm here aren't I?

The fact of the matter is: when you ride motorcycles, its not if you crash but when you crash, and as a beginner, you should be extra careful, there's more to riding than knowing how to shift the gears and pulling in the clutch, I would reccomend a riders saftey course for anyone who is new to the ART of motorcycling. We all have had friends and loved ones die on bikes. DON'T BE A STATISTIC.

at the dirt bike race there were 3 guys that we raced with and 1 of them got really drunk(as in drunk a whole ice chest full of beer drunk) & 1 of the guys that we raced with that day got hurt ( he broke his finger while racing) an the guy that was wasted offered 2 drive his dirtbike up on the turck 4him. He starts up the dirtbike an he pulls down hard on the throttle he falls off the dirtbike. the bike goes acouple more cm. then it falls down in the sand. but this wasted dumb@$$ isn't done yet. he offers 2 put the dirtbike on the truck a 2nd time. this time he gets it half way up on the truck the bike falls down in the bed of the truck and he stumbles of the side ofthe truck. he finally gets bike straped onto the back of the truck& the guy who was injured drove away.
while on his way home from the race he got in to an accident & his truck was tottaled(it was a hit & run accident) he got scraped up alittle bit when the paramedics arrived they noticed he had a broken finger when they saw that they thought it was from the accident(when really it was from the dirtbike race)

about a year and a half ago my husband was drinking all night and I was riding with him and he wanted to take me for a ride and I wanted to go home, he insisted on go for a ride, anyway he thought he was getting on the freeway but actully we were going into a parking lot and he was picking up speed and we hit a curb at 65mph and flipped the bike and totled it and we landed on grass luckly. I was launched about 15ft from him and the bike, I was sober and I was so scared he was just nocked out. We were un hurt. we had someone watching out for us.
His bike is fixed and he just bought a new one and I now have my own bike, I will not take the chances of riding be hind him again, I have lost 3 great friends from motorcycle accidents...

Except for hitting deer it seems most accidents are caused by car drivers. maybe lobby to get higher penalties/better driving by box owners? Particularly if they hit a motorcyclist?
