this is just my opinion, but fat babies are happier healthy babies. I wouldn't worry just yet, once he starts walking and becoming more active he should trim down.

My daughter weighed 8lb at birth but was over 19lb at 9 weeks.
All she had was milk, all the health visitors were on my back about obesity, even though she did not eat anything she shouldn't, and she had to see a dietitian at 6months.
She's now a healthy stocky, but by no means fat 2 year old.
All kids are different- try not to get roped into the 'average size' debate.
Personally i don't think you can really tell too much at this age.
He will probably thin out once he's moving about more.
If in a year or so it's still an issue then I'd worry, but for now let him be a cute cuddly baby.

That does sound like a big baby. My son is 2 and he weighs 25 lbs. Perhaps he has "fat" genes. My brother was also a big baby but now he is thin. So, it does not necessarily mean your cousin will be obese when he gets older. He may lose the weight when he gets older by being very active. What matters is his health and if several pediatricians say he is fine, then there is nothing to worry about. You are a great cousin to be concerned. Maybe you can find a nice way to show your concern to your aunt and good luck!

If he is breast fed and only really having good baby food like seived veg and the like then it is his natural weight. You cannot judge by weight alone you have to look at what is being put into him and what weight he started at.
My son was 11 lb when born and 28 lb at 9 months.
He is now 16 , 6ft 2 with size twelve feet and a 32 inch waist. Not 0ver weight at all but I could have been very critisized when he was a baby.
Its a subject that needs more considerationthan just age and weight.

To me that is an overweight baby. Are you sure he is 25 lbs.? My boy is 23lbs. and is 8 months and I think he is healthy but chunky. I think she should ask her pediatrician. When my boy has his 6 month check up, the nurse was telling me of a baby that came in that day and he weighed 22 lbs. and the doc scoulded the mother. The mother got yelled at because now the child has more of a chance for childhood obesity. Definetly check with the doc. Tell her I said Good Luck!!!

I'd say he's a big baby. My son is 3.5 years old and has only just hit 27lbs (he is very small) so I can't imagine a 6mth baby being this size!
It is very unusual for a breastfed baby to become overweight there are all sorts of complicated supply/demand/production reasons for this. If he is really only getting breast milk and pureed veg then he might have a metablolic disorder.
Babies and their weight are a very sensitive subject so please tread carefully if you do bring the subject up with your auntie.
Perhaps you could just ask if she takes your cousin to a health visitor of peadiatrician for regular check-ups, if she does you can be sure they are monitoring his weight.

I'd say that is a bit on the heavy side. 25 lbs is average for a 10 month old, but not a six month old. I'd tell her to take a close look at her child's diet and cut out any unnecessary feeding. It very well could lead to childhood and adult obestiy.

My son is 11 months old i had him weighed today and hes 20lbs 1 oz he eats a lot of solids. Im sure the health visitor would of said if anything was wrong but mayb get your aunt to get him weighed fortnightly at the clinic to keep track and her health visitor can monitor carefully if there are concerns.

thats a big baby! was he big born or has the weight piled on fast etc? my son was always a big baby but in propotion. saying that he didnt hit 2stone until he was 2 hes now almost four and just over 3stone and hes a good sized child. Maybe you should get her to see the health visator, maybe the formula is for a hungrir baby etc you may need to change it, also i know alot of people hate them, my son sure didnt have one, but a dummy might be a good option!

My baby is 6months and weighs 10 lbs less than your cuz. Man! Your aunt is over-feeding him. Just because a baby cries doesn't mean he's always hungry., It could be something else. Your cousin is being taught that food is the only form of comfort available. Sometimes, babies are just upset and just want to be cuddled. Your aunt should keep a feeding schedule.

my girl is one in a week an she only just 20lb
but all babies are different they travel on what are called centiles as long as he is going to clinic everynow an again he should be fine they would say if you had to worry depends also how big he was born they say that babies should double there birth weight at 6 months as soon as he starts cralin the weight will usually drop a bit to at least this shows you really care for your cousin
