Kids throughout the ages have NOT had cell phones, pagers, and PDAs. It is NOT a necessity. I will not get one for my daughter (who is 12) until she shows some measure of responsibility. I work in the finance (collections) department of a cellular service provider, and you wouldn't believe how irresponsible some people are (yes, the parents too).
Do your homework, study & help out around the house (without being told). Once you start showing you can be responsible your parents should be willing to discuss it.

No, I have seen kids as young as 5 going around with a cell phone. It all depends on what the parents think. If your parents want you to get a cell phone, go for it, and no I think kids between the ages of 11- 16 should get their first cell phone.

Well, that depends on the child really. Personally I don't think kids should have a cell phone unless it is for YOUR peace of mind. If you do purchase your child a cell phone I would recommend waiting until they start highschool.

Wait until she is in high school which is probably one or two more years. However, if she is responsible enough without you having to warn her about blowing the phone bill, then yes she can get it now. However, I wouldn't recommend it because I see no use for it until she's in high school.

If you can pay for it yourself, no.
Plus, you must learn how, when and where to use the word "too", not "to", before you are allowed to have a cell phone.

yea, way too young. they make special kids phones though where you as the parent program in 4 numbers. thats all they can call. nice idea.
