Put up sticky pads meant to catch flying insects where the kids can't reach. If possible, do it on the wall.

I am using the nasty fly strip things.. they really look ugly but they are working..
I also have a jar that does have a fly poison in it but it has a trap where the flys go in and can't get back out .. you use it about4 feet off of the floor.. that way the babys can't get to it.. and it is reusable so you can dump the nasty buggers out and start fresh with more stuff. better than having to keep buying the new ones. that are disposable.
You can get them at a tractor supply or hardware store.. it is working for me.. don't have to go through so many fly swatters either. they eventually wear out too.
good luck and if you find something better let me know..

there this stuff, it's crushe egg shells & the flies go right to it & are traped or something, just sits in ur window sill & catches them, don't know whatit's call, but I love FLY ART, they r really neat, you hang this little tube & it pulls out a piece of sticky tap that collects all the flys on it, u pin it to the ceiling & it look like art the longer u have it

Go to your local hardware store and buy those fly strips that you hang up on the ceiling. They are attracted to those and stick to them.

Walmart sells small bug "zappers" and ones that suck them in with air currents. Both use UV light to attact them. I have both and they work reasonably well. They sell for $19.95 in the hardware section.
