Democrats do not believe that the taxpayers should have to pay for all healthcare. As the cost to secure health care has skyrocketed so too has the premium paid for health insurance. Unfortunately the costs to receive medical attention for even the most basic general health needs has risen in cost out of step with payroll increases which means more American's and their children cannot afford to seek medical attention unless it is an emergency.

In order to offset this problem that impacts US productivity and our societies in general both Democrats and Republicans have come up with differing solutions, both involving a form of Universal Healthcare. Currently Democrats favor leaving choice up to the individual by providing tax credits toward relieving the cost of insurance premiums chosen by the individual. Republicans on the other hand favor mandatory government approved insurance laws similar to the Massachusettes health insurance bill approved by the state legislature in April of 2006 or a tax credit system for individuals whose employer does not offer health insurance.

In either case, Republican or Democrat, Universal Healthcare is an eventuality but it would seem that Democrats favor choice while the Republicans are more inclined to design a complicated system similar to the Medicare package offered quite recently.

Yeah, your vacation is expensive, but it's not life altering. It's a luxury for god's sake... get over yourself. Health IS life altering. It's important, and believe it or not some people cannot afford proper healthcare. Just because you have the money to pay for it yourself doesn't mean that everyone does. Everyone should be able to rest assured that if they, or their children get deathly ill than there is still of hope for them, even if they dont have alot of money. I'm sorry that it cuts into your taxes- but you obviously have the money to spare. Maybe you should start being thankful that you are privilaged enough to have all of the luxuries that you have, and support the people that dont (without whining about it). Innocent people shouldn't have to die of sicknesses that could easily be cured just because they can't afford it. There should be no price on health.

You can live without those things Shiraz, unlike health care.
Your mind is off, how can you categorize HEALTH (our lives) with your car and honeymoon? I'm sure you work and you probably work hard but you're telling me if one day you or say your wife or daughter get cancer, you are willing to pay in full? When life is on the line and you're income is not even enough to pay for half of it, you're not going to ask, why can't our government at least, AT LEAST help with this?????

Instead your left on your couch up to your ears in Hospital and doctor bills and funeral bill, all the while your loved one in the ground, and this is a question you ask us now?

Government pay for it?

Who gives the money TO the government to pay for it? We Do.

The last proposal made by the Democrats for universal health care coverage would cost every tax payer another $1000 a year. $10,000 for a decade. In the second decade that amount would double.

"The government has the obligation to, according to the preamble to the Constitution, "promote the general welfare". Health care is a basic human right."

Since when is it my obligation to pay for their "basic human right"

It ain't free. Who is going to pay for mine?

"Good point." No, actually it isn't a good point.

"because people die every day because they don't have insurance"

Baloney. An indigent person can walk through the doors of an emergency room and receive treatment without ever having to worry about the bill. Each and every hospital HAS GOT tto treat you and then write it off for those who can't pay.

"and if you haven't noticed, health care has gone up about 6-7 percent a year for the past few years."

Wrong. The cost of health care has risen 18% per year for the past 5 years. That is almost 100%. What do you suppose that amount would be if the healthcare providers weren't treating charity cases?

"Do you honestly believe the large pharmaceutical companies aren't over charging for medication and health care?? Basic health care should be available and AFFORDABLE to everyone. You're fortunate enough to have a house note, 2 cars and whatever else. Some people in this country can't even afford food.....What's wrong with trying to take care of our own citizens???"

I'd say they are. It costs me It costs me $180 a month for the medicine I need just to sustain my life. That is with my rather generous prescription plan. It costs me over $400 a month for my health care coverage. So now we are looking at $580 a month. Heaven help me if I get sick and have to go to a Dr. or have tests done at a hospital. I can't afford it and I have coverage. Yes, I own a house. I own a car. It is 13 years old. I can't afford a new one. I have to make sure I pay my insurance premiums for everything (healthcare, home owners, car) I am "insurance poor". Why because I have worked very hard for the 25 years should I be expected to pay MORE to make sure other people can have what I have worked hard to get?

"Only in America are people so under valued as to have them starve in the street or bleed to death if they don't have any money."

When is the last time you brought a starving person in off the street and fed them at your dinner table? When is the last time you saw a person bleeding to death and offered them a ride to the nearest hospital?

When is the last time any of you proponents of offering other peoples hard earned money THANKED one of us tax payers for footing the bills we do now?

Who's willing to give up their cell phone or internet connection for a year to hand the money over to the needy?????

Having the government pay for health care is like putting a band-aid on cancer! The high cost is only the effect of many different causes. By the way, I don't have health insurance, can't afford it.

Are you really so naive to believe the government would be doing us a favor??? Do you honestly believe the large pharmaceutical companies aren't over charging for medication and health care?? Basic health care should be available and AFFORDABLE to everyone. You're fortunate enough to have a house note, 2 cars and whatever else. Some people in this country can't even afford food.....What's wrong with trying to take care of our own citizens??? Imagine what the BILLIONS of dollars being spent in Iraq could do for health care.

Because having a healthy populace is beneficial to the society as whole. Productivity, epidemics, and stability are all concerns if you have an unhealthy population. Your personal stuff does not help society in general. Not saying it is the government needs to outright pay for healthcare, but the system is broken and will have a catastrophic collapse if things are allowed to continue the way they are.

because people die every day because they don't have insurance... fate is cruel, I wouldn't tempt it like you do... perhaps you'll learn the lesson with a loved one since you're so opposed to it...

and if you haven't noticed, health care has gone up about 6-7 percent a year for the past few years... how long can you afford it if it keeps going up at that rate? 5 more years? 10? then what? anyone who has been paying attention knows that in the next few years, healthcare is going to get VERY STICKY... but have fun and don't worry about the future, I'm sure it will be fine...

Every other industrialized country has national health care, why shouldn't we? Why should every American be scared that getting sick will wipe them out financially and put them out on the street to starve? Did you know 40% of all the money spent on health care in this country is eaten up by paper shuffling bureaucrats? But don't worry about it, national health care isn't going to happen, not with a trillion dollar debt to Communist China to pay for tax breaks for billionaires. Congratulations, nice job!
