Research in just about any field can be independent. I did marketing research and worked from my dorm room.

Some personal assistant gigs also are fairly autonomous, you are just accountable to one other person--the one you are assisting.

Writers are also pretty independent. You could free lance, but the income wouldn't be steady.

If you are technically minded and a bit creative I would suggest becoming an inventor. Just look around your own house for little things that are annoying or bothersome and find a solution to it.

Either that or become a freelance photographer. That way you just take pictures and then send them in for money.

Of course there is always the prospect of being a writer of some sort.

Hopefully some of these ideas may give you a direction to follow at least!

Why not own your own business. I am in a business where you are an independent agent and it is your business. They do have a perfect system in place for you to follow, but it is so simple and a great business to own.
