How much Castor oil am I suppose to take to induce labor?

go to gentlebirth.org to read up on it (go to the 'search this site' button and type in castor oil). It gives all sides of the castor oil debate. If you do choose to take it please take no more than 2oz. TOTAL. ANd every single time you run to the bathroom drink 4-6 oz of water. there is a risk of getting dehydrated because your poop is going to come out like water. NOT FUN!

Also...be warned that it may or may not work. :-)

here's my experience, you decide for yourself -

My first child, one week early, I decided I wanted to have him....so I tried everything, car rides, sex, the whole bit. My sister told me about castor oil (she had never had a baby) She told me to take 2Tbsp, and mix it with something, like Orange Juice or something like that. Well, I did....after which I wanted to puke. I went to bed after drinking it at 9:00 pm...woke up at 2:00 in the morning with contractions....and major diahrrhea and nausea. Went to the hospital....sat on the monitors for a couple hours....I was having contractions, but not enough to progress (they were regular but weak) My nurse insisted she'd get me admitted before her shift was over...so she sent me walking. I walked for 4 hours, up and down the halls at the hospital....contractions slightly stronger...but not really - she got me admitted. The doc came in at 7am, and broke my water.....so now, I'm pretty much bed bound, AND have major diahrrhea...AND major contractions (they started petosin). at about 10:00am...there was nothing left in me....I insisted on an epidural (I wanted to do it naturally), around 11:30, the anesthesiologist came for the epidural, and the pain finally subsided. 1:00 rolled around I was stuck dialated at a 4.....4:00, still at a 4.......6:00, still at a 4....8:00, jumped to a 6....9:00 at a 9+, 9:10, I insisted I start pushing....and at 9:48 pm my beautiful baby boy was born not breathing. He had a 15 inch head, and weighed 8 pounds 7 oz. and was 22 1/2 inches long. He didn't breathe for 3 minutes, but I was being watched over that day because they were able to get him breathing. The moral of the story....My labor was LONG, HARD, and MISERABLE...and I would never try it again! I contribute my baby not breathing to the length and strain on him....and to risk having another baby be born not breathing...NOT WORTH IT. However, it did start my labor.

I now have a healthy boy who is 3 years old and another who is 1 year old (labor was much easier on this one.) So, take it from someone who tried it....DON'T! Besides, I'll never drink Orange Juice again!

DO NOT TRY THIS~ This is very very dangerous for you and your baby~ Your doctor will induce labour when he/she is ready~ DO NOT TAKE CASTOR OIL

Do you want severe diareah???? THats about all it will do. Be patient labor will come on its own. If you cant take it anymore, Ask your doc to induce labor.

I wouldnt do that or anything to risk my health or my childs health. Why would you want to induce labor before the baby is ready to be born? Just wait and when its time it will happen.

The problem with taking Castor oil to induce labor is that it could be dangerous to the baby. it could cause him/her to suffocate because you have ingested a laxative. What you ingest the baby ingests.

don't do it.....the reason it induces labor is because it dehydrates you. not a good thing...chances are you are already miserable, why add the diarehea prob

I tryed that with my first it was so nasty how it works is you get the shits and it makes you dielat I drinked the hole bottle but I tryed it with my other pregnancy and it didnt work god luck and dont tell you doc. he or she will be mad
