The Bible as written in Hebrew did not mention homosexuality as a sin. It mentioned what has translated by interpretation (which is a stretch of itself) as "homosexuality" as being "Toevah", which means unclean. Also listed as "Toevah" is that man shall not eat creatures that crawl from the sea, for it is "toevah". Which means eating lobster, for example, is unclean. It also states that a man is not to lie with a woman while she bleeds, for it is "Toevah", which can be translated as you can't sleep with a women while she is on her period, for it is unclean.

However, when the Hebrew version got translated to the King James version, somehow the part of the creature crawling from the sea, and the women bleeding, the word Toevah was translated to "Unclean". But, when the no man shall lie with another man part was translated, the Hebrew word "Toevah" was translated as "Abomination" aka SIN.

So, the answer is that in the Bible Christian bible thumpers use today to stand behind their beliefs, it does say its an abomination. However, that is NOT what was written in the Hebrew version. Also, curiously, is there is absolutely NO reference in the Bible, of Jesus or God demanding anything about homosexuality. NOTHING! ZIP! ZERO! So, why do Christians preach hatred of Homosexuality from generation, to generation? Because they don't have the open mindedness to accept that what they have been preaching to followers may not be exactly right.

If everyone did morally what the Bible LITERALLY says to do, then Women would have no jobs, no careers, and would still be suppressed by men (written all over the Bible), there would be no eating shellfish (Leviticus), young girls would be offered up to older men as a peace offering (Sodom and Gomorrah), there would be no gambling, no tattoos, no sex out of wedlock, no divorce, and a whole bunch of other stuff.

Why do people keep preaching this then? Very few people that beat up on gays can actually quote the Bible passages that are often referred to. In fact, every time someone makes the stupid statement that being gay is a sin, I ask them where they read that. They say, well, everyone knows it is in there, but they can't turn to it. I'd say if your going to spread the crap, you should be able to locate it in there!

No, being gay is not a sin. Sins are things that are you harming someone. Being gay doesn't harm anyone.

As for the Bible being the Word of God. While we have none of the autographs of the Bible, the early manuscripts we do have have and that are known to be genuine, by the most conservative estimates, have 200,000 differences between the wording in them, and while many are not meaningful, some completely change the doctrine of the church. (Ehrman, Bart, Ph.D.; Misquoting Jesus: The story behind who changed the Bible and Why; Harper Collins, 2006 -- p. 89). less conservative estimates range up to about 400,000 -- and there are programmers now endeavoring to write a program that will be able to count the exact number of variances.

And that's only the start of the difficulties for the Bible. If you only use the Textus Receptus (Received Text) as it is printed in modern Bibles then you are looking at enormous problems anyway -- in fact insurmountable ones. The World does not have corners (Isaiah 11:12), nor does it sit on pillars (I Samuel 2:8), nor water (Psalms 24:1-2). God did not establish a solid dome over the earth (that's what firmament literally means) and he does not have a palace on top of it from which angels can come and go up Jacob's ladder -- which might be reached by the tower of babel -- and where he keeps "treasuries" of hail and snow (Job 38: 22-23). For the sake of all that is decent, you can't even harmonize the 1st and 2nd chapters of Genesis with each other, say nothing of being able to defend the Biblical creation as scientifically factual. That's no surprise though, as the Bible tells us that beetles have four legs (Leviticus 11: 21-23) and that rabbits chew their cuds (Deuteronomy 14:7). It says that pi is 3, not 3.14 (I Kings 7:23 and 2 Chronicles 4:2) and that the mustard seed is the smallest seed in the world and grows into a tree [neither of which are true] (Matthew 13: 31-32). It is hardly a font of rational thought or scientific accuracy. Furthermore these errors only scratch the surface. Try harmonizing accounts in Joshua and the telling of the same tales in timeline in Judges sometime. If you can you are more proficient than any theologian I've ever met, and I've met a few.

Late bronze age men created the OT and early iron age ones the NT. It is not surprising therefore that God cannot lead Israel to defeat Iron chariots after promising he would (Judges 1:19), and it is not surprising that the flight of Israel from the god Chemosh, after the king of a city the Jews were beseiging and that God had promised them they would overthrow The King of the city offered his own son to Chemosh as a human sacrifice, resulting in Chemosh driving the Israelites away (2 Kings 3: 19-27) -- further it is not surprising that no punishment is mentioned -- the Israelites were still sacrificing their own children, as is evidenced in several places, but most graphically in Judges 11:30-39

The long and short of it is, the Bible is a mythic book, written by bronze and iron age men who were recording primarily oral legends in written form. In any realistic sense it is drivel. You can see, just in the passages I noted above from 2 Kings -- the last vestiges of polytheism fading away. Chemosh was supposed to get power from human sacrifice, just as Jehovah did -- and that power allowed him to turn the table against Israel, despite the fact that God was with Israel.

Read the verses, read the context -- to all the things I've suggested, calm your breathing and thinking and ask yourself if this is really the God of the Universe you are reading about -- or a tribal deity, which has now evolved into the one we worship. I think you will find biblegod sadly lacking -- something the liturgical churches have been saying for hundreds of years. If you find yourself unwilling to even look -- ask yourself why? Are you willing to sacrifice the truth, in order to maintain a comfortable myth for yourself?

And if you want a chuckle, read the second, and theoretically final version of the ten commandments. They are in Exodus 34: 10-26. That is the covenant Yahweh actually made with Israel. No seething here.

Have a nice day.

The Bible consistently tells us that homosexual activity is a sin (Genesis 19:1-13; Leviticus 18:22; 20:13; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9). Romans 1:26-27 teaches specifically that homosexuality is a result of denying and disobeying God. When people continue in sin and unbelief, God “gives them over” to even more wicked and depraved sin in order to show them the futility and hopelessness of life apart from God. 1 Corinthians 6:9 proclaims that homosexual “offenders” will not inherit the kingdom of God.

God does not create a person with homosexual desires. The Bible tells us that people become homosexuals because of sin (Romans 1:24-27) and ultimately because of their own choice. A person may be born with a greater susceptibility to homosexuality, just as some people are born with a tendency to violence and other sins. That does not excuse the person’s choosing to sin by giving in to sinful desires. If a person is born with a greater susceptibility to anger/rage, does that make it right for him to give into those desires? Of course not! The same is true with homosexuality.

However, the Bible does not describe homosexuality as a “greater” sin than any other. All sin is offensive to God. Homosexuality is just one of the many things listed in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 that will keep a person from the kingdom of God. According to the Bible, God’s forgiveness is just as available to a homosexual as it is to an adulterer, idol worshipper, murderer, thief, etc. God also promises the strength for victory over sin, including homosexuality, to all those who will believe in Jesus Christ for their salvation (1 Corinthians 6:11; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Philippians 4:13).

Your question could be interpreted as a rhetorical questions depending on where the respondent is philosophically positioned in their beliefs - left wing conservativism or right wing liberalism. Is heterosexuality a sin, and if not where does it say in the bible or other religious doctrine? The root of the before noted question stems from creationism - Adam and Eve - if what is written in the Old Testament is true then how did their off spring, two sons procreate or is the story/legend of Adam and Eve a creationist metaphor?

Let's face it, regardless of sexuality or sexual orientation, there will always be those who consider it a taboo subject; something that is private and not for public display. AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases have brought sexual preferences into the open and have instilled fear and sometimes loathing into some factions of the community.

I think that although it may be considered inappropriate by some and/or illegal or sinful by others, we live in an age where people are free to express their feelings whatever the individual's orientation.

In the bible there are many examples of sins and we are all sinners. So how many times does it mention same sex actions as sins, how many sins can a man commit against his wife, how many against a neighbor or stranger. You will find that there is basis for same sex - sex to be a sin. You will find many more about other things.

Everyone, please. Stop confusing bad and good with sins and sinners. Stop judging each other, accept that we all sin in our own ways. Now if you were to ask about bad and good people, I would have to start a long long list.

Thats right - i think the bibles slightly hipocritical in that way. Homosexuality isnt something you can change, its like skin colour, so being homophobic is just like being racist. It is a lot more socially accepted than it was a while ago which is good. I have no problem with gays and i believe everyone who thinks it is a sin should really THINK about it first and about the people who are gay, and how they feel about people not accepting them for who they are.

Yes. The Bible frequently speaks of sexual perversions such as homosexuality being a sin.

I think you are basically saying that because you "feel" homosexual or whatever, that it is right. Natural is not always good. In fact, we naturally tend toward sin, and it is only God who can take away our sin.

Oh, f*ck what the bible says about it and f*ck ignorant people. I'm SO TIRED of people turning to the bible to cast everyone into sin... According to the bible, I'll bet, BREATHING TOO LOUDLY should be considered a sin.

Homosexuality isn't a sin. It isn't a choice we consciously make, so it can't be wrong. If God was all-loving and all-forgiving, things that have been forced onto anyone's lifestyle should be the easiest things to forgive.

Defining yourself as homosexual is no sin.
