EDV, no doubt.

Slash doesn't even compare. He was more popular w/ Guns N Roses, not Velvet Revovler.

I would say Eddie as a guitar player. But the best died on March 19 , 1982 in a plane crash and he was more technical than Eddie and could run circles around both of them!!

Randy Rhoads was the best and anybody that plays guitar knows this!! The man is still admired today.. Check out Over the Moutain on the Diary of a Madman album the solo is done in 4 to 5 different parts and you can hear something different every time you listen to it!!!

EVH, no question. You have to take into account that EVH single-handedly changed the face of rock guitar with the release of the 1st and 2nd albums.

He's the one responsible for all the two-hand hammer-on gymanstics, the one responsible in many ways for speed metal guitar, etc.

No matter what you think of VH's output, if they have a legitimate claim to being a metal band, etc., you can't deny EVH's role in the guitar pantheon if you're objective and honest...and I'm not a guitar player, I'm a professional keyboard player.

Slash, on the other hand, deserves kudos for attitude and such, but as a guitar player there are hundreds of better players out there, with a better command of the instrument, more "garlic" as Zappa used to say, who have more to say with the axe.

Here are a few (in no particular order):

Allan Holdsworth
Steve Vai
Eric Johnson
Joe Satriani
Yngwie Malmsteen
John Petrucci
Jim Matheos
Tony McAlpine
John McLaughlin
Steve Morse
Phil Keaggy

I'd take Eddie's smiling guitar over Slash's shaggy hair anyday.
