I am a woman myself, but I think it is wrong when political parties and factions try to force female mp's on their constituents, just to make up a quota, and appear politically correct. Rather than choose simply which person - male or female - is best qualified and has the right abilities for the job in question. The woman may very well be apt and highly capable, but I reckon she should earn the position on her own merits.
Women only shortlists should be banned.
Agree?

I agree with you. But, if you try to start a discussion on whether shortlists or quotas are needed anymore, you are automatically deemed a racist and/or sexist depending on the situation. Until there's enough intellectual honesty in the various leaderships of the country in question, no such discussion can take place on any meaningful scale. If there's no discussion, the status quo will continue.

Doodlebugjim has it suited - verify out the ladies new labour have had. i think of that's a tragic day while the conservatives help some thing as stupid as all females short lists and pondering the reality they're way forward in each and all of the opinion polls i do no longer understand why they could prefer to help such nonesense. additionally hariet harman's equality bill fairly is going against the ecu bill of rights via fact it includes discrimination(which i discover fairly ironic).

You are so right--let's do that for all the minorities. Then the best candidate will get the job, without having the knowledge that they were hired to fill some stupid quota.

I agree. though sadly said parties / companies / services are unable / unwilling to decde how to tackle the sexism (etc etc) that exists either in their 'recruitmebt process' or in the societies desire for those groups to have any interest in them.
strange though how these ideas all come from people like myself (middle aged, white, reasonably well off folk with no reason to personally complain - I should have been a goth).
