Perhaps there is a Favorite Nick Nack of your Mom's
or a stuffed animal from your childhood.
Or a subscription to your hometown Paper.
That way you know what's going on at home.

Home baked cookies can be sent safely around the world,I know. We sent cookies to our nephew in Iraq when he served there. His buddies and himself feasted! Just have her pack them in bubble wrap to prevent crushing.
