There was a question asked earlier about the new Survivors being divided by race. I thought she was crazy!! http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AuBYzhPOxSUvUyY3o_pKYO7sy6IX?qid=20060823061925AARFPpL
Now I see this on Yahoo

My apologies to the original poster and now that it's been confirmed what are your thoughts?

It will be an interesting experiment to say the least. I do believe this will ignite its fair share of controversy. This does seem extremely gimmicky, no matter how hard the host tries to persuade us that its for educational value. I believe in all honesty that this is both a great ratings grabber as well as an experiment. Because if it were just for ratings, they know they would still fail in the end because of the high controversy surrounding it. Too many people would be angered by competition between races. This doesn't bother me, though, because if they can pit old versus young and men versus women against eachother, why should race really be that much touchier? It's the same basic principle, and if we want to be honest with ourselves, they should all spark the same amount of controversy because they are basically the same. I don't believe this is a bad thing in itself. What I'm worried about is the audience. Because they will be stupid enough to concern themselves with slurs and competition, and they will be racist enough to want other races to fail in order to prove a point. But ignorant viewers shouldn't mean that this show is directly encouraging negative atitudes towards those of other races, or provoke people to wrath using controversy. The show is a show, and those offended shouldn't watch. If I find the show is offensive, I simply tune out. It's like if a few people are racist, I just ignore them. Offended people can do the same.

I'll be watching -- no different than when they grouped the men vs the women a few years ago ... although that was boring ... it was much better when the teams are mixed up a bit with all ages, and backgrounds gender etc.
I'm looking forward to it -- I think it will be a good show and I don't have any problem with having people ban together with people they have similar cultural background with.
I like the idea.
I think it is a little controversial as the public willhave to have a bit of angst about it and comment one way or another ... but I see nothing wrong with people of like background and culture, banning together and trying to outwit, outlast, outplay....
It should be taken in the spirit it was intended.... it's ok to be different and to acknowledge and celebrate our cultural differences.
Expect the unexpected.

Well, at least at first there wont be any whining about not being to do something because of their race. Should mean less excuses. I can see why Survivor did this. They were getting complaints the show wasn't racially diverse enough. Well, the way this is set up, those complaints are pretty much invalidated now.

Awesome idea for a social experiment - keep an open mind and we'll see what we learn. Tribal lines will be tougher to break into after the merge, so the outcoime may be easily predictable from that point on...but maybe not!! I look forward to it!

Sad that the show has stooped to this isn't? I mean that the show is so low in ratings now they have o go by race to try and create controversy? Just sad. Time to END THE SHOW.

I think it is okay as long as they think that no race is better than the other. One team is better than the other but not race.
