Well, Hitler was in power for a dozen years; the Jews were persecuted for a decade; the death camps were in full operation for two years (1943-45).
African slavery lasted 400 years.
You figure.

I'm going with the Holocaust as the greater tragedy as the death toll was astronomical and horrific. The African slave trade - hate to say it - still exists in some parts of that continent. The slaves had a chance to survive and while they didn't prosper in the new world at least they lived and were for the most part taken care of by their owners. Yes, there was mistreatment and brutality and they were being held as slaves. The slaves were eventually freed and their descendents are alive and thriving (I hope) today. I can not say the same for the victims of the concentration camps. I hope that we never see another Holocaust or any more slavery ever again.

Slavery has been going on since the beginning of time and not just to africans although it is the most widely known. There has been slavery in pretty much every nation in the world so it really isn't justifiable to mention just the african slavery. As for the holocaust the slaughtering of our fellow mankind has also been going on since the beginning. Murder and torture isn't something that started with the holocaust and it certainly didn't end with it either. Genocide happens in all nations of the world. Sadly neither genocide nor slavery is something you can get away from.

When the Europeans made a big drive to colonize Africa in the 1800s, an estimated 12 million Africans died of TB and other diseases the Europeans brought over. There has been more holocausts and slavery on the African continent then there have been in Europe and America but we like to ignore it.

Both sucked, but I'd say the Holocaust. Slaves worked hard, but they got room and board. (Not good room and board, but livable conditions.) Slave owners took care of their slaves' health. After all, a slave owner has a stake in his slaves' ablility to work without dying. Slaves had value to their owner. The value was as less than human workers, but owners had ineterests in maintaining the lives of slaves. In the Holocaust many were killed right away. There was less food. Some survivors left the concentration camps so skinny that all of their bones could be seen. There was also a different mentality in an enclosed camp.

bigger: african slavery. It lasted long and affected more people.
African slavery was a smaller tragedy than european slavery which lasted for far longer and affected even more people, it just happened earlier.

None of those.
1. Not only jews died in the ww 2. Many more Russians did. Isn't that a bigger tragedy ?
2. Not only blacks were slaves through history. They were only 300 years slaves in america. There were enslaved nations much more than this. In Nigeria there are slaves even today.
I guess you are talking about the bigger american tragedy. I think is Vietnam.

they are both tragedies...you would think we would learn from our mistakes, but we never do. the holocaust was a modern tragedy and for the most part ignored while it was going on...slavery is another tragedy that was ignored...most tortured and killed millions....

I don't think one was any worse then the other. In both cases some survived after being tortured for a period of time. I think both were terrible and I can only pray that someday everyone EVERYWHERE will interact peacefully.

the holocaust, nothing agaisnt black people, for the record I think black people is cool. but unlike the holocaust white people didnt try or have the intention of purposely destroying an entire group of people. A third of all jews in europe died in the holocaust.
