If you didn't, wouldn't it be defeating the purpose?

Not at all, pretend you have a disability, then ask for help. Then pretend to have a fit and I am sure the book store will give you all the books you want, they may even pay for your self help by way of therapy.

It is up there with buying a book on how to read! How about a book on procrastination? You can put it away for ten years like I did! Or a book on how to deal with your clutter...only to lose it in your clutter. Or finding a word in the dictionary when you can't spell it. How about written instructions for the blind? Such is Life (sigh).

No There are clerks who are specially trained to help people find the self help section.
