If you understood the Dow, you would know it moves up & down as it has over the past 6 years. Looking for a moron check the mirror. My investments are just fine, the minimum wage is up with less people on it - if scumbag husbands would stop leaving mothers to fend for themselves, the need for minimum wage would drop. The borders are defended better than ever, but more people want to live in US. Can we trade you?

Let's look at it from a Clinton/Gore Presidency
In the first two years after the republicans gained control of the Congress, the DJIA rose from 3843.90 to 6813.10. That's a 33.1% average annual return. The OTC performance was even better: rising from 755.20 to 1379.85, a 35.2% average annual return. In the second two year period of the republican controlled Congress, the DJIA rose another 37.36%, from 6813.10 to 9358.80, an average annual return of 17.2%. And in the second two year period of the republican controlled Congress, the OTC rose 81.61%, from 1379.85 to 2505.89, an average annual return of 34.8%.
To summarize: the average annual stock market return (compounded annual rate of increase):
Dow Jones Industrial Average: under Clinton/Gore: 7.8%; under the republican controlled Congress: 25%.
NASDAQ (OTC): under Clinton/Gore: 4.1%; under the republican controlled Congress: 35%.
It's understandable that Al Gore has called the plan to allow people to invest part of their Social Security payments in the stock market a "risky scheme". Because like most leftists, he simply doesn't understand the workings of free markets. He doesn't understand that our economy is where it is today in spite of, not because of, his policies, every one of which is designed to strangle private business with more regulations. Under democrat economic policies, with democrats controlling the White House and Congress, stock market returns averaged well below historic norms.
"What-ifs" are always problematic, but if the republicans had not won the Congress, a person investing $1000 in a stock market index fund mirroring the DJIA when Clinton/Gore took office, would have had a total of $1691.73 at the end of 1999 if democrats had remained in control of Congress. In contrast, because the republicans did gain control of the Congress, that person actually had, at the end of 1999, a total of $4130.20. The difference between democrat and republican economic policies actually made the average person wealthier by $2438.47 for every $1000 invested.
As for Since 2001 well let's not forget the WTC attack and then the WOT and then Hurricane Katrina and the effects that had on the oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico and now the Alaskan Pipeline shut down due to inept maintenance of the pipes, anmd the fact that Liberals have kept us from drilling in our own back yards or building better and newer refineries keeping us tethered to the mideast for thier oil. All of this has played big on the market, at least GW has it going in a positive direction unlike the Clinton years.
Wow, what a deal. Yay Republicans!!!!!!

Because the Plunge Protection Team is acting to keep the stock markets in a "range" which gives Americans "confidence" in their dominance of "world affairs."
Think of it, the Dow plunged to 7500 in the months after 9/11 and gradually made it's way back to 11000.

how fast do you think it should go up? Plus, you have to remember that it went way down after 9/11 as I recall, mid 7000's if not lower.....in fact that figure was about 7200.....and it now just under 11,300.....that is a 3000 raise.......it is good.....and you need to look at what happened.....if WTC didn't....it could be well over 12,000

only morons would compare the economy pre-911 to post-911! that's apples and oranges. over-simplifying and generalizing does not make for an intelligent comparison.
while you're at it, I"m surprised you don't blame him for spoiled milk, flu, mad cow disease and your divorce....
he's still our president, and you don't have to like it, but you are dishonoring and disrespecting the leader of your country in sight of the citizens of many nations, which in my book is grossly unpatriotic and disloyal. if you can be a better president, sign up and become a candidate!

I love it when people start talking trash about Bush. It's funny to me because I always ask them if they voted for him. 90% of them say yes. Then, I ask if they made that same mistake twice. Some say no but the majority..70%ish sheepishly say yes. They get all embarassed because they feel foolish. But anyways..to get to my point..
As much fun as it is to point out our presidents inadequacies, doing that does nothing to change the situation our country is in. America is the best country in the world to live in. That is what I believe. Thus, we have a right to have a president that we are not ashamed of. We have a right to have a president who does not alienate our country from our own allies. We have a right to a president who does not unify our enemies and galvenize them into action against our military forces in the field.
For reasons known only to Bush we entered into a war in iraq and afghanistan, thinking that we would sweep our enemies off the field of battle like we always expect to. But for all of our high technology and firepower, we are still having our sons and daughters destroyed by remote control landmines. After all this time we still send our troops out on patrol in armored fighting vehicles built out of aluminum!!
We awarded a no-bid contract to a company called Halliburton *Dick Cheney is the ceo of a company owned by halliburton..*, which costs the taxpayers billions extra. Costs that would have been alleviated had other private companies been allowed to bid on the contract.
In spite of the huge amounts of money that were funneled into halliburtons coffers, our soldiers were sent into battle without basic necessities like body armor. Entire units were equipping their own vehicles with steel plating that they acquired on their own. Soldiers were buying kevlar body armor at home to wear in iraq since they was not enough to supply them from halliburton.
Bush does not believe in global warming. In truth he does not care what the world is like for our generation since he will not be alive to see it. He made the decision for america to not participate in the kyoto treaty, an international treaty that many nations have signed on to in an effort to reduce greenhouse emissions. If only our president were as enlightened as his counterpart in japan or chile..
Clinton was better than this. He may not have had principles, but he did have ability. With him social security at least had a budget surplus. Bush burned that up quite fast, and now social security is nearly bankrupt.
Our children are not going to have it, in spite of the fact that so much is taken out of our paychecks to support it.
Bush has managed to piss on the whitehouse and america, and we all stood by and watched him do it for 8 years. He should go down in history as the least liked public figure in american history.
Hopefully the november elections will reflect the true direction of america. Bush and his republican guard do not speak for everybody. =)
