The book was obviously written by an american indian or an american indian sympathiser (that's not an criticism, just an observation). Conventional thinking is (was) that when the europeans came over to the New World, they settled it, which necessarily implies that before that it was not settled. The statement you read reflects the current politically correct thinking that the land was in fact settled prior to the arrival of the europeans, such that their arrival represented a RE-settlement.

How about that America was settled originally by the American Indian, then the Europeans came and settled it their way (resettled)?

Basically that the Indians were here in America before the Europeans! That's why Native-America do not have to pay taxes and they can go to school for free! Because this was once their land first!

There were people already settled in America before the Europeans arrived...so when the new people came over, they weren't creating an original settlement, because there were people here already....so they were re-doing it because they ended up changing what was here

It means that the area was originally settled by native americans. When Europeans and Spainards arrived, this continent was already settled. They just moved on in and claimed the native land as thier own- pushing the native americans off the land they had originally selltled.
