as compared to life imprisonment. im doing an essay on this and i kind of want to hear other peoples opinions which do you perfer and why and if you pick neither than what would you pick as an alternative punishment. i believe capital punishment is wrong, not only is it wrong but ithink its less of a punishment than life imprisonment, well atleast it would be if prison wasnt so "comfortable". you know what i mean they get tv and outside time just lock them all up in a little white room with no human contact whatsoever thats what i say.

in regard to jesus's statement dont you think if the punishment was more intimidating there would be less crime i mean you have the people that will do it no matter what the punishment but if you ask me those people are insane and need to be institutionalized maybe used in tests and studies which can be a punishment of its own and help out the scientific community.

i also think if you must have the death penalty why is it sooo painless those people dont desreve to die peacefully when after doing this they would be punished by god anyways and probably die in a worse way than getting a shot its like when a child does something wrong they always perfer top get the spanking instead of being grounded becasue the spanking is over sooner

WHY NOT EXECUTE TIMOTHY MCVEIGH?

I have been thinking about something and I was just hoping to see where
other abolitionists are at on the issue of Timothy McVeigh. As you probably
get from people, I have heard it said to many abolitionists "How can you be
against the death of a man who killed 168 people, including children in a
day care center?" Part of the answer is the same for any other case:
Killing is wrong. But when talking with non-abolitionists, I think it is
important to be able to address the vastness of McVeigh's crime. So here's
what I I've come up with and I'm interested in hearing what other people
have to say:

Timothy McVeigh might be an extremely sadistic man, one who displays
utter disrespect for life. His apparent brutality, his thirst for revenge,
and his hatred seem almost unparalleled. I don't want to be anything
like him. Even if its to a lesser degree, I don't want to give in
to brutality, revenge, and hatred.

In fact, I despise his values so much that I want to have the opposite ones
in my life. Those of healing, reverence for life, and forgiveness. I'm not
talking about forgive and forget. He must find a way to face up to the vast
amount of suffering he has caused. He should see every mother and father of
his victims and let him see the pain he has caused. Maybe he's too sadistic
for this to have any effect, but it is sure worth a try. Yes, our taxes
will be going to feed him, clothe him, and keep him alive, but I prefer that
to my taxes going to the acceptance of Timothy McVeigh's values.

It is a stronger deterrent than imprisonment and it is far cheaper than imprisonment. The only disadvantage is in those cases where someone found guilty is later proven innocent as it would be too late for them.

I am against the death penality even tho I had a freind who was murdered. Just 1 innocent life is one too many. It is likely cheaper to keep someone in prison for life because of the high legal costs of appeals in death penalty cases unless one is in Texas. TV's and weight rooms don't make a prison "cushy".Just easier to bide the time when one is not busy avoiding rape, gang violence, racial hatred among a few. Also, someone on death row is usually segregated from others anyway. Also, it doesn't seem like the death penalty has deterred very many, does it.

The problem with life in prison.. is you will never get them to get rid of the tvs, and the weight rooms, and all the other "comforts" they have. Even if they do, they still have their brain, they can laugh, they can think, they can imagine, they can dream.

Unfortantly, their victim, can no longer do those things.... Does that seem right? Someone that is innocent can no longer do the important things in life, someone that is guilty, can... Something isn't right there....

By the way, it is cheaper to kill them then to keep them alive for 60 years or so

My brother was murdered when he stopped to buy milk for his children. There was a robbery attempt & the shot him point blank after having his wallet. He got death penalty & deserved it, but the Democrats appeals judge said it was not henious enough for death penalty. Tell that to his 3 children that grew up never even knowing him. The baby turned 2 just 4 days after his death. Why feed them for years, this guy was only 22, I do not want my tax dollar to feed him for 50-60 yrs.

I'd say it depends on the severity of the crime committed. In some foreign countries they cut off your hand for stealing bread.

That's a little extreme.
But if murder innocent people and you were not acting in self defense then yes I'd say bring on Death!

Like that man I heard that killed a 10 year old child because he wanted to eat her...Death is too easy...Torture!

It just depends on what they did.

i agree that prison should be less cushy. its a punishment, not vacation. but anyway, i think there are some people that don't deserve to be on this earth, like child molesters and murderers. they deserve to die, and if they have an adverse reaction to the lethal injection, as some do, then maybe they should have thought of that before they went and killed someone. also, some criminals have psychological disorders that make it impossible for them to learn from their mistakes, so there's no point in incarcerating them forever. just let them die.

We should have this if nothing more than to keep the prison population down.We also need to figure out how to make the whole thing faster and cost efficient from crime to death
