hot fuss

. Jenny was a friend of Mine - The song begins with helicopter noises as if it was the opening scene from "Apocalypse Now" and some funky tape tricks. - and then here comes the distorted guitar and fat & funky bass line. Nice opener to the album. Dig the lyrics. Brandon Flows sings with a kind of whiney, nasally, and yet sincere voice. Decent opener to the album. I love the chorus and the way Flowers sings it. (7/10)

2. Mr. Brightside - Nice little track with some impressive lyrics. Brandon sings with rapidness in the first verse that travels through the entire tune accompanied by some impressive drumming by drummer Ronnie Vanucci. (7/10)

3. Smile Like You Mean It - Kind of a surreal sounding track. Deep, soulful track and I dig Flowers' work on this song. Once again the bass line shines. (8/10)

4. Somebody Told Me - For about an hour before I wrote this review I had "Somebody Told Me" on repeat. It's the debut single from this relatively unknown song. Why has the song been on repeat for an hour? Simple. In my honest & craptacular opinion "Somebody Told Me" is the best song of the year. As of right now, it is. The song shows a rising band sticking to it's pop-rock, synthesizing using guns and yet offers up a song so ******* infectious & catchy it will make your goddamn head spin. It's such an impressive track from a band like The Killers this reviewer will continue to call it the Best Songs of 2004 that he has heard. The synthesizer is used at it's best in the opening of the song and the bass line is always funky. The lyrics are cheesy and simple, but that doesn't matter. The general melody and sound of the band catch you and hook you in right away. I wish it would have been the first song on the album because "Somebody Told Me" is like the mood-setter of the entire album - meaning that if you love this song as much as I do 9/10 you'll absolutely adore Hot Fuss. "Somebody Told Me" is nothing short of addictive.

Look mom, I'm playing the song again! (10/10)

5. All These Things That I've Done - Song starts out with a silent little piano bit. It's a quieter track, but it's nice. Triumphant, in a weird way. The production of the album shines in "All These Things That I've Done". Good lyrics, too. (8/10)

6. Andy, You're a Star - I don't like the way Flowers sings on this track, it's bland and annoying and kind of irritating. But the lyrics are good in some parts, as well as the all too apparent synthesizer. It builds up to an all-right track though, with what seems to be a choir in the background. WAIT, IT IS A CHOIR! (8/10)

7. On Top - It opens like a ******* techno track! But the rest of the song is pretty damn good. One of the best songs on the albums. Great chorus. (9/10)

8. Change your Mind - Nice sounding song, once again impressive work by Mark Stoermer on the bass and the drumming. Great lyrics. (9/10)

9. Believe me Natalie - Alright sound, the best word to describe it is: "meh." Pretty, in a way. 7/10

10. Midnight Show - I really, really, really like this song. It reminds me a lot of something The Cars would have done, which is a good song...I love The Cars. (9/10)

11. Everything will be Alright - It's alright....kind of boring. (7/10
