Good grief. Where were you people when my civil rights was being taken away? Did you think that they were only going to ban smoking? Get a life! Once people have allowed certain groups to ban one thing, then other items will become eligible to be banned. This runs the gauntlet on everything out there. It could be food, vehicles, clothing, books, sports, or whatever some groups might think is a threat to our 'health'. You did nothing to fight for my rights, so why do you think people should fight for your rights!

I'm a smoker. My rights were trampled on the moment that the Chicago City Council voted to raise taxes on cigarettes, and they keep doing it. You see, it's not a tax on everyone, just us smokers. Now they ban foie gras.

Why ban foie gras? SO they can protect us from ourselves. The Chicago politicians assume we cannot decide for ourselves, thus they should decide for us. I take personal responsibility for my actions. I smoke. I LIKE smoking. So now I buy my smokes in DuPage County, for $3 a pack, avoiding Chicago's extra $3 in taxes. I provide NOTHING to enrich Chicago's overstuffed treasury now. They only hurt themselves.

Back to foie gras... So some of you agree with the Chicago City Council? Do us all a favor, first pull out those canine teeth you have evolved with. Humans are omnivores. We eat everything. Belut, anyone? Nasty stuff, but Filipinos love it, pinfeathers, toenails, and all.

Making a law against foie gras is mindless on the surface, but PETA has strong inroads in our politics in this city. This IS the city where special interests get their way above all else. In order to pay for their stupidity, we have the highest gas prices in the nation (taxes), nearly the highest cigarette prices in the nation (taxes again), and ruinous property taxes to boot.

When does the common man stop paying for the whims of uncommon boneheads like PETA and their like?

I've met Didier Durand, the Chicago chef leading the fight against these idiots, and I have nothing but respect for the man. His policy is simple. If you don't like it....DON'T EAT IT.

Idiots are everywhere. Chicago just elects more of them. Give them enough time and everyone will have to wear a life preserver to go swimming, regardless of age. Pocketknives will be banned within the city, and smoking will be banned in private homes, due to the health risk. Hell, give em time and they'll ban alcohol. Given this city's history, what they're doing now is a crying shame. This city once resisted the protectionist ninnies that started Prohibition. Now, we're calmly accepting all kinds of idiotic restrictions, because the council says they're good for us. I'm voting them out next election. I hope you do too.

I know that no one stood up for those rights, but I believe that smoking is bad for EVERYONE'S health; including yours. I think people should fight for these civil liberties and I hope that you can smoke where it is not hurting others. Alas, I agree with your statement about anything being banned. The world is doomed.

For those who have no Idea what she's refering to. Chicago City Council passed a law banning the sale to Foie Grais (Duck liver pate). Frankly I think it's very silly Democrat run City that has better things to spend it's time on.

I can’t wait until we live in a world where all you can eat is TOFU; everyone has to wear a HELMET during any physical activity, and you feel that you’re lucky because you get to pick the color of your new HYBRID car (as long as it doesn’t offend anyone).

How bad can it get? Here in Edmonton, you can’t buy PEANUTS at a football game and you can’t smoke on a restaurant (or bar)patio. I know that some people really hate smoking, but OUTSIDE! Come on, someone please try to explain that one to me.

Right On dakotaviper! The next thing you know we're going to have to start paying for the frigging air we breathe! And I feel sorry for the broke people because once they start charging for air the biggest job ads will be "We are seeking Grave Diggers!"

I agree with you because I live in Texas and in Texas you can get arrested for being a drunk at a local bar. However, unlike your city, the cities (ie Dallas, Houston, San Antonio) have less restrictive laws. These laws are stupid to do.

Nail on the head! I suppose these same people will get upset shortly after they ban smoking from you own home and then they legalize goverment video cameras in your home so they can keep tabs on you. (like they have done on the streets already).

I agree with you 100% If we don't do something about it, It will continue. won't get any better either. It's like if you don't vote then don't complain about who gets in.
