Im a 21 year old NYU male college student. I'm kinda sure that I don't want kids, but I want to make sure that I won't have kids in the future. This is because I can imagine that I'll probably will want kids one day in the future when I'm 30 or something, but the world is wayyy too overpopulated and I think it would be cruel to bring a son or daughter into such a crappy world even if I really wanted to. So I just want to make sure that that doesnt have a chance to happen. So, where do I go to get sterilized? Does it hurt? Am I too young to get sterilized? Any side effects? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

I wouldn't get sterilzed. You said you're "kinda" sure, so don't do something you may regret later.
BTW...when I was your age, I didn't want kids either, but in my mid-thirties I did and have a wonderful daughter now. I agree with the "crappy world" part, so I do my best to raise her to fight in this "crappy world."

umm first off i don't believe that their is any way you can be sterilized. you could get sniped and that would end you from having the Chance of ever having kids. it can be reversed if you decide that you want kids down the road. But it doesn't always work. and most doctors wont even do this procedure until you are a little older. sorry but it's the Truth and honestly right now you don't want kids so play it safe and use a condom and make sure your partner is on the pill or something to That affect. and think about it in a few years. if your really serous you should contact your doctor.

Your best bet is to speak not only to a medical physician that you can trust and is qualified to answer such questions but also to an open-minded male that you share a sense of respect with. This is a decision that needs to be both well thought through and well informed. You seem as though you are on your way to the thought through part, still I would give yourself more time. It is a decision that will clearly impact your personal life for the rest of your life. Don't rush things and bo 100% sure, with no doubt when you do follow through on a conclusion.

You are a bit young to be making that kind of decision. Speak with a medical counsellor. In the meantime use condoms. They will protect you from STDS as well as prevent pregnancy. Can I tell you, I did not want kids either but by the time I got to 28 it was a new ball game. I am now the proud mom of a wonderful son and I cannot imagine my world without him.

It's called a vasectomy. They sever/remove all or part of the vas deferens, which means there's no sperm in your ejaculate. It's safe, and the only pain you'll have is minor bruising of the scrotum for a few days. I'd imagine that hurts quite a bit, actually, but I don't know. I'd talk to your phsyician, and a counselor if I was you. Seriously, I'd think a condom would be a lot easier..... Just remember, it is a permanent fix: there is no going back.

what? are you mad, what if you meet the woman you want to spend the rest of your life with, but she wont marry you cause you cant give her children. you wont find many women who will be happy to know that they will never have children. i'd wait a few more years and settle down first. whats wrong with having a child. if your happy to maybe be on your own when your old with no children and grand children to come round and visit you, then go for it. your friends wont be around forever and family is the most important thing in the world. you'll also prob find that the docs wont let you till your 25 in the uk anyway.

Dude, honestly, I think you're WAY to young to make this sort of a descision. You have no idea what you want yet. Trust me...i'm 27 and if i think back to how I thought when i was 20/21 it's TOTALLY different than i think now.

Just use condoms make sure there is spermicide in them. Once you are older, and perhaps married you might decide you want to have a child. Don't do something so drastic that may not be able to be reversed.

You are only 21 years old...you don't really know what you want right now...I'd hold off...what happens when you meet the woman of your dreams and she wants children?? Just use condoms with plenty of spermicide and be careful.
