In math/physics, the significant figure is used to show to what place value an answer can be considered accurate. If you divide a number by another number, sometimes you can get a lot of decimal places.
For example: If you measured something to only one decimal place, then that is the smallest division that can be considered accurate, so you would have to round your answer to one decimal place.
