Why not ?

It originates from at the same time as the dockers in Portsmouth went on strike years in the past. The dockyard presented in dockers from Southampton and broke the strike, strike breakers have continuously been noted as scum, for this reason Southampton are literally the Scummers basically because they broke a strike in, what, the 1920's. Or it could be the vast chip Pompey have were given about the bigger city up the coast. shall we face it, the basically aspect about Portsmouth it truly is more desirable helpful than Southampton is the football crew. the city's a s**thole.

Southampton nowadays enjoy a fierce derby rivalry with Portsmouth F.C. whose fans have dubbed Southampton supporters "Scummers", an epithet used by supporters of a number of clubs when referring to their local rivals. According to Portsmouth fans, it actually stands for 'Southampton City Union Men', with the term originating from when Southampton dockyard workers crossed the picket lines when Portsmouth dockyard workers were on strike, to take advantage of the situation and take on their work, but recent research failed to uncover any evidence that this strike took place.

Because of the so-called picket line jumping. Some dispute if that had even occurred.

RED AND WHITE FOR LIFE!!!

DOWN WITH THE SKATES!!!

When I was just a little boy
I asked my mother what shall I be?
Shall I be pompey? Shall I be Saints?
Here's what she said to me
Wash yer mouth out son
Go fetch your fathers gun
and shoot the pompey scum
and support the Saints
We hate pompey, we hate pompey

You're a scouser
An ugly scouser
Your only happy, on giro day
Your mums out thieving
Your dads drug dealing
Please don't take my hub caps away
