Religious conservatives say that Liberals want to drive religion out of the country when everyone with a brain knows that liberals favor getting religion out of GOVERNMENT.

Why are Religious Conservatives to unable to understand the difference between a student praying privately and a teacher leading prayers?

Why are Religious Conservatives unable to understand the difference beween having the ten commandments posted in a living room and having it posted in a courthouse?

Is this a case of stupidity or willful ignorance?

Willful ignorance. My mom and I were talking about this the other day. The religious conservatives believe that it is their job to force Christianity on everybody else. Anything that comes between that is wrong in their eyes. The whole issue with wanting the ten commandments posted in the courthouse is not only ignorance, its arrogance. If you are a Christian, you know the ten commandments and its fine if you want to follow them but its arrogant to say "even though you aren't a Christian, I'm going to force you to look at religious symbols and force it down your throat until you comply" This counrty is supposed to be a separation of church and state. There is absolutely NO reason why any religious symbol should be in ANY government building.

Same with prayer in schools. As a Christian, I would rather pray alone. Why should Children of all different religions be forced to or even have to see organized prayer in a public school? If one wants their Children to get a Christian education that included prayer in school, they need to put their children in a private, religious based school. again as separation of church and state NO religion should be taught using government money in public schools.

Gay marriage. Why is this wrong? The only thing that I hear religious conservatives regarding gay marriage is that its wrong because it says so in the bible. Fine don't have a gay marriage then. But the bible should not be used as a basis for making laws. Again, separation of church and state.

I am a Christian myself and have nothing against Christianity. I do believe however that everyone should be free to practice whatever religion they choose on this Country. The government should not be based on ANY religion , not just Christianity but ANY religion. The way to convert one to Christianity is not through arrogance, forcing someone is just going to make people rebel and think badly about our religion.

I pray daily, I love GOD and I know I am a Christian. I don't have to be arrogant about it though. If the ten commandments are taken out of every government building tomorrow I will still be a Christian. That has no bearing on my love for GOD. I don't need to see religious symbols in every government building and school to be reminded that GOD loves me and to be reminded of the word of GOD.

I think that the religious conservatives are just being ignorant, arrogant, and are hurting their cause. Non Christains and athiests are going to rebel against Christianity if it is forced down their throats. I know I am a Christain and I believe that my religion is the one true religion. I believe that Christianity is the truth and all other religions are inferior. This is just what I believe though. I cannot and will not force this on someone else though. People that live in this counrty are free to have any religion they want without feart of persecution.Thats what makes this country so great.

Why can't liberals understand the difference between a student praying privately and a teacher leading prayers? They want to ban even private praying.

The Ten Commandments are an historic document. What's wrong with displaying them in a courthouse? No one is being forced to read them, much less abide by them.

Its actually a case of the minority trying to impose its will on the majority by a liberal and incorrect interpretation of the separation of church and state clause. The Constitution only says that the government cannot establish one religion over all others. It does not say anything about banning religion all together.

Because part of the core platform is that the government is of the people, and therefore should reflect and enforce the will of the majority.

It's not that they don't get it. They just disagree with the distinction you draw. It's neither stupidity nor ignorance. It's a conscious decision to use government authority to enforce conformity.

And with those goals of conformity, it doesn't matter what the minority thinks or believes, because we as a nation live in a majority rule might-makes-right system.

So, it's perfectly valid from their perspective to have the government enforce the beliefs of the majority. As long as they are the majority.

I just wonder how many would change their perspective if they became the minority under a group that wanted to impose beliefs contrary to their own.

This country was based on Christian values, not a Christian religion. There is a major difference in posting the ten commandments on a courtroom wall and the doctrine of the Methodist or catholic church.

The constitution states that the government will not establish a religion, not abolish it from the government.

So who is stupid and also ignorant of what our founding fathers wanted and were willing to give their lives for.

Because they believe everyone is or should be a Christian & it's just not so. There are many beliefs out there & Christianity being one of the youngest I guess they feel they have to push it's way around.
It always seems the youngest & smallest are the loudest ;)
