Today, I took the day off from work (which is next to impossible because my boss doesn't give time off) I had an interview for another job. Now, they are wanting me to come back for a second interview next week. My work does not give vacation, sick, or personal days. What kind of excuse can I give to leave early for an interview. My excuse today was my doctor wants to run some tests on me and they have to do some blood work and my father is taking me because usually it makes me ill afterwards so I wouldn't be back for work after the appointment.

I don't think I'll be in work for awhile. Yesterday I was riding my son's BMX bike and I fell and broke my ankle it two places and I'm in the hospital.
I won't be in today. I'm still drunk from last night.

I would say that would depend upon the postion if they are going to require you to wear suits at the job I would get that suit from the cleaner or borrow one. If that is not the case then I would say dress pants and a dress shirt with a tie and sweater over or as is would be appropriate did you pay attention to what the interviewer was wearing or the staff in the office as you were walking in that might give you some clues. I agree with the member who suggested going to the second interview on your lunch hour. Maybe you could go before or after work. If this isn't feasible, then I would tell my employer the truth that I am applying for another job. Even in this day we're living in, I believe that most everyone likes hearing the truth than a lie. See if you can schedule the 2nd int after hours. Explain the difficult situation. I've been an employer for over 30 years. I'd go out of my way for a potential new employee if it just meant an hour or so. No big deal.

Could you explain that you need to go back to collect the results and for the follow-up consultation to discuss them with your doctor. Perhaps the doctor's office isn't open late in the evenings or on the weekends when you're off...

I'm a high school career counselor and the best advice I can offer is to tell them you have personal business to take care of and you'll need to leave 30 minutes early. I'm sure your company, and others like it, have difficulty maintaining employee loyalty and trust especially when they impose such rigid policies.

Try to go during your lunch, if at all possible. Don't make your stories too detailed otherwise it will be obvious you're lying.

yeah tell them you docs wants to talk about the results and when you have to quit jobs tell you have cancer and want to travel til you die.
