My Dell laptop has started freezing up within a minute or two of startup. What is even scarier is that sometimes it won't turn back on! No screen, no fan, no noise, nothing. But sometimes it will turn on and I can run safe mode, but even that will freeze up again. What is my issue?

*Edit* It is not the battery or AC adapter. Both are still functional.

HEAT

Your laptop is trying to prevent damage to the hardware by turning off when the temp gets too high. Unfortunately the new CPUs get hot very fast. You are going to need to call Dell about this if its still under warranty.

This is only 1 possible cause. Others may be loose connections inside or short circuit on the board. Laptops are proprietary technology and as such are not designed to be fixed or modified by the avg. user.

Could be a ton of things. But I would check out to see if you still have these startup problems when your laptop is connected to an electrical outlet. If you don't, chances are your battery is dying.
Otherwise, there's probably a loose connection on the motherboard somewhere and you'll have to have Dell look into it.

You bought a dell when you should have bought an HP. Sounds like a fan has gone bad and is overheating.

Sounds bad. :( Is it one of the laptops that Dell was recalling due to oveheating problems? Even if not it sounds like you need a new laptop.

Its in all probability your ATX connector ( the 20-24 pin huge previous one). If no longer its your thermal paste on CPU or your ram. Your fan would be death. yet another reason is the small jumpers for the flexibility, restart, puzzlingchronic easy cables.
