I am a hugger. I greet my friends with "Hi" and a hug. If I ask a friend how he/she is doing I also listen to the response. If I detect anything in their tone or words that sounds fishy I delve deeper into their situation. I do not like friends to try and gloss over a problem. Most people feel better when they share their problems with a friend.

My greeting will vary due to my mood and the situation, but it's usually a "hey", "wuzzup?", "howareya" or something...followed by a hug...
Most of the time my friends will answer honestly re: how they are feeling, however I can usually tell if I get a generic "okay" answer but the friend appears stressed or not themselves...it may be that they don't want to talk about the situation at that moment...I'll let them know that I know they aren't being truthful, but allow them to share more as they desire...

A greeting depends on the dept of the relationship. for example i won't greet someone i vaguely know the same way i would greet my very close friends.
If a friend has issues that i know about and i meet him/her, i will give him a hug, and tell them that its good to see them. But its not normal for someone to be greeted with a how are you? and they respond with all their problems. I would guide them to the nearest psychologist.

I have more men friends than women, and when I'm with someone special to me, meaning another man that is, I'll see them from a distance and walk towards them in such a manner you wouldn't believe, and actually shake their hand and say, "How are you doing ?, this is ?; this is?. Nice event!" See you a little later. No explanation, no excuse, whatever I want, desire and can see it that's what I take as mine!

It's so good to see you and with a hug.
My friends don't seem to be able to wait for more than a few seconds to tell me everything that's going on with them. No doubt it's because they know I will actually listen to what they are telling me.:)

I usually say hi and then ask how are you doing. Most people's lives's could be falling apart and they will say oh I'm fine.I like to use the saying. Oh I'm fine, no use in complaining, no one want's to hear it anyway.

regardless you greet them with an honest and sincere smile and friendly hand shake or hug, depending on how close you are.
