They sell telemarketer poison and telemarketer hotels at your local drug store. If that doesn't work, you might need a professional to come out. How bad is it? Do you find telemarketer droppings in the corners?

Here's two things you can do: first, when you pick up the phone and no one is there, press your pound key 6 to 8 times as fast as you can. The call is a telemarketing outfit's computer checking to see what time of day your phone is answered so they can more efficiently schedule a live call. Punching the pound key confuses the system and the computer will kick your number out. Second, when it is a live telemarketer, don't hang up. Make an excuse, put them on hold, and walk away till you here the siren that says your pone is off the hook. Chances are that company will not call you back again because you wasted their time. A boiler room is dependent on volume.

Tell them that they've interupted your all with the dead.
You should have disconnected that call waiting months ago.
Ask them to hold, so that you can tell the dead people on the other line that you have to take this call.
Put the phone down. Walk away.
My brother was a genius at razzing telemarketers.
He'd get them started on a whole conversation, and then try to sell them one of the cars or the washing machine that he has up on blocks in the front yard.
Hilarious.
Seriously, just register with the do not call list.

Sign up with the national do not call registry:
https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx
It's a federal program. If your # is on it telemarketers have to have your express permission to call you or they have to purge your number from their databases. I think registering immunizes you for 5 yrs or so.
They'll be allowed to do it on cll phones soon, so you probably should register that line too.

I don't know about getting rid of them for good but when you answer the phone and they ask for mr or mrs you can say that mr ? is in the shower and mrs ? will be home in about 2 hours. They will think that you are the mistress or something, I do this all the time, I tell them I am the babysitter, or maid or something other than I am mrs ?

Ask them for their home phone number and ask them if you can call them back. When they say no, they don't do give that out and can't be bothered at home, say well now you know how i feel. It's a Seinfeld gem.

Interrupt quickly and ask why they are not observing the do not call list. They are scared of that thing. And google donotcalllist and get your number on it.
