What a disgusting idea. It will just reinforce certain stereotyped views of the racial groups and cause millions of viewing Americans to make generalizations about racial groups based on one stupid show.
You gotta know too that reality TV is scripted. There are hundreds of hours of tape they have to go through and they choose the most controversial material to pull in more viewers.
I hope this experiment fails miserably and that all the contestants realize how stupid the trap is and work hard to show they aren't going for it.
What this world needs right now is to build bridges of understanding between racial groups and cultures, not to segregate them more and open the door for more racial stereotyping or division. We can all be different, yes. But we should understand our differences and appreciate them.
Sad that Survivor has to stoop this low to get ratings.

HECK NO. i am a white girl who would WALK OFF THE SHOW if i was a contestant. think about what you would go through. first of all, every kid who has a prejudice bent in elementary, jr. high or high school is going to use this as an excuse to talk about the "dumb black team" or whatever other race. I am from a very white region and we don't have enough variety at ALL. the prejudiced people in my area are just going to FEED off of this! i am extremely upset about this and have already written in to CBS. first of all, CBS better not have a martin luther king, jr. celebration this january, because his dream to see black, white, all colors holding hands is completely SHOT with this ridiculous attention getting stint. to honor him after dividing people of his country would be a crying shame. Second, if i were a white contestant on this show, when i got back to the real world, i'd be known as the white girl and how i treated other races, not that i was forced to compete like this, but that i was prejudiced just for competing. there is no way to be viewed or remembered other than in the controversial moments. if I were the contestant, i'd refuse to participate in anything, and on the first night of voting, i would vote Mark Burnett off the island. third, CBS is the jerk kid who taps the bully on the shoulder and gets someone else in a fight, never caring that he's the one who started it, only laughing because he didn't get punched the way the innocent other kid did. CBS is not taking responsibility for the fights, misunderstanding, and division they will be sowing in the schools, by the watercooler, and more. you couldn't pay me a million of Survivor's own dollars to watch this season. so NO, I do NOT think this is a good idea at all, i think it is TOTALLY IRRESPONSIBLE.

Jeff Probst popped in on The Early Show Wednesday morning, confirming the reports that the 20 castaways for Survivor: Cook Islands will be grouped by race, with competitors divided into four tribes consisting of whites, blacks, Asians and Hispanics.
I'm looking forward to it -- I think it will be a good show and I don't have any problem with having people ban together with people they have similar cultural background with.
I like the idea.
I think it is a little controversial as the public willhave to have a bit of angst about it and comment one way or another ... but I see nothing about people of like background and culture, banning together and trying to outwit, outlast, outplay....
It should be taken in the spirit it was intended.... it's ok to be different and to acknowledge and celebrate our cultural differences.
I think it will prove that people are just that people --- and that this game brings out the best and worst in people regardless of their race or ethinicity.
Expect the unexpected.

On paper, it sounds like a good idea. But in real life, it's the most stupidest thing ever. What if one team was winning and a frustrated player spits out an epithet/ That will up the tensions on the set. Which will up the tension on viewers, who will up the tensions to others. Is it really a smart thing? Is controversy like that really necessary for it? It must means that their ratings are slipping. How sad. A semi-good show disintegrating into a Jerry Springer level How sad.

it rather is sooo undesirable and so racist in it rather is very own remarkable. And there are various human beings and communities who're no longer chuffed approximately it. And the actuality that Jeff Probst, the host, replaced into attempting to locate a thank you to declare that it replaced into no longer approximately race in any respect, it replaced into in basic terms a contest. that's huge. Why do no longer you publicize lynchings in case you're at it! ill motherf-u-c-kers! And all and sundry on any of those communities that has joined and did no longer or does not get the image or do no longer care, shouldn't learn the "I advised you so" via the a-s-sholes who seen this concept while between the communities happens to fail in although annoying circumstances. ill. What a super thank you to coach lower back the hands of time with discrimination. Oh, exhilaration!

Not many minority contestants? I'd say minorities are over-represented on that show. Every season they make it a point to include blacks, hispanics, asians, gays, you name it.
Anyway, separating the tribes by race would be a bad idea. Separating tribes by race would end up being the "Jump the Shark" moment for this show. It would indicate that they are truly running out of ways to keep the show fresh.

No I don't think so. I think they are doing it to boost ratings for the upcoming season but they'd better be careful, I think they're opening the door to controversy wide open.
I don't think this will prove anything really. I think Survivor is getting stale and it's time to move on to something new. Reality game shows are on its way to extinction. People are more interested in watching shows to improve their homes or their daily lives. That's my two cents worth.

controversy equals high ratings and viewers, so while i think it'll be a very tense and touchy season i think that the controversy of splitting the teams by race will draw a lot of viewers. Therefore, while i don't really think it's the greatest of ideas i think it's a good move for the creators of survivor. As for what it will prove.... that no one is as color blind as they would like to believe.

No, that's discrimination. It won't prove anything, it may make some people angry, that's all.
