call microsoft and they can do the registry for you over the phone.

If you purchased you XP Home version; simply type in the Product Key Code located on the back of box, containing the code. Your OS for Windows will register automatically when you connect to the Internet using whatever ISP.
However; it sounds as if you have already done the process. Now simply installed the software for you ISP (Internet Service Provider), and after wards; do a Windows Update for the patches needed on your system.
