Without any real specifics of the problem and not knowing how 'old' it is, I suggest you first determine if it's an ISA or PCI modem. If the problem is that it won't fit in the slot, that makes a world of difference. Can you be more specific?

What are the problems? Get the new modem card, and open up the computer case. Take the card, and stick it into the PCI Slot.

It must really be old if it doesn't already have a built-in modem. I assume this is what you mean, but maybe not. Sorry, can't help you.
