I'm a 26 year old student/young professional yearning to make a living in Seattle. I just arrived to Seattle 2 days ago and I choose the International District because it was moderately cheap and had rooms available. So what do you think? Am I going to be mugged in the middle of the night? To be honest with you, it seemed okay to me. It even felt kinda touristy.

It's not that bad. Perhaps when viewed as part of Seattle it's a little more dangerous but take it from a guy who's lived in Harlem, West Philadelphia, and Delhi India, compared to these places where I have lived unscathed the International Distric or Pioneer Sq. in Seattle looks like Disneyland.

I live near to you in Capitol HIll. Seattle in general is super safe city, so maybe as far as Seattle goes, this is one of the less safe places. Is it anything like LA, well not even close, but there is a lower income class here so your chances of being harrassed by some hooligans i suppose increases. You will get to know your neighborhood and get a better feel for the area soon enough.
The sketchy areas of seattle are North of the city up like off Aurora and like 150th area. Thats an intersting bus ride. .hahahahha
Anyways in the day time the ID (internation district) can be very touristy as they have alot of ethnic restraunts and great shops.. Be sure to visit Uwajimaya, thats a great market

Seattle is a few distance secure whilst in comparison with Vegas.. yet. For cost, and in basic terms widespread stuff to do, i might advise around the U district. this is low-value, this is secure, this is close to each little thing, and the buses run each and all of the time from like 4:30 am till a million:15am. Ballard is a advantageous section besides, even though it is going to run you greater money probably and transportation isn't as usual.

I lived in International District for 10 years in that old Hotel on 5th...the Publix.
You pretty young guy.....just keep your eyes open.
There is stuff going on in that entire area which includes Pioneer Square and in the area of courthouse.
Most of the action in International District seems to take place in vicinity of REDFRONT TAVERN and the corner of 5th and Jackson.
I have seen it pretty bad out there at times and then it clears up after the cops put some pressure on crack types.
It comes and goes.
International District is OK.
Just need to know what is going on around you....just like in any other city.
I been in Seattle since 1989

For Seattle, it's more on the ghetto-side, but overall, most of Seattle is pretty safe. You're more likely to have your car broken into or stolen than being mugged, though. You might as well try it out and see what you think...you can always move if you want to thanks to the landlord/tenant laws in Seattle that make it easy to get out of any lease.

Hope you have a great time living here...!!

it's touristy and a bit obtuse.
i had a 'friend' who lived their and he saw a hooker getting railed by a guy right outside the back entrance to his building by a dumpster.
Just stare at your destination= and dont respond to any 'locals' voices, they wont hate you they will just know your not a source for 'something/whatever it is they want'.

GO TO UWAJIMYA(spelling is prob. wrong.) for food, and fast food, and on the east side of the freeway theirs a QFC with an elevator directly into the store.

You shouldn't die, that is if you have a car.

Bum's live under the tunnels, drive fast by them, they throw stuff

Honestly, how safe are you anywhere? Disaster can strike at any time, any place. If you hear gunshots nearby at night, be scared, other than that, just be cautious. Besides, if you don't own anything real nice, most people will leave you alone. I wouldn't worry too much.
