Undershirts are great for a variety of reasons. Many people chose to simply have another layer between their body and their sweater or shirt, which helps a lot if you want to cut down on dry cleaning. This helps because your oils and body odors aren't going directly into the main article of clothing-its going into a machine washable undershirt! Also, I believe the history of an undershirt is probably a little dated, because people needed layers and layers of clothing (think petticoats and girdles) and men wore undershirts. Hope this helps!
