pain relief is a very vague subject, however, your doc has a responsibility to make sure your are pain free. too many gp's are shrugging their shoulders at pain and leaving patients to get on with it.
anyway, i have severe back pain most times and i find the best way of controling it is combining paracetamol and ibuprofen.
take 2x 500mg paracetamol tablets and 2x 200mg ibuprofen tablets every 4hrs when you are awake. ( ie dont set your alarm to get up through the night to take them). ibuprofen can damage your stomach so never take it on an empty stomach and if you have asthma or diabetes check with your pharmacist or gp to make sure your ok to take it.
also. use those pads you can heat up in the microwave and experiment with different sitting and lying positions, many people find their usual sitting position is causing them pain, then forget to try other ways ( i did this for the first few months of having a bad back) use pillows/cushions etc dont worry about the appearance of your living room with a bedroom pillow in it, your comfort is more important than the cosmetics of your household.
finally, i hope you find some relief i can empathise with aches and pains.
p.s yes i do condone the use of cannabis.

For fingers and thumbs I like to just flex them a lot and then shake them over my head and open and close them or whatever for a few minutes several times a day. Try that and see how it feels. I feel that part of the problem as we age we get slower and as we do we don't get enough exercise in our body to keep things moving properly. Then we have to do things to help out, but some kind of exercise program would be more beneficial to us in more ways than one. I strongly recommend a walking/jogging or swimming routine to keep joints limber and body functions running better. Hips are of a different problem, they are usually because of the tendon joining them to your body. It likes to shrink, as they say, but can be lengthened back to it's regular length so that things will function better for you. to do so try this: (in shorts) While laying on your bed with legs pulled up and bent at the knee, feet flat on the bed. Take your hand and put it between your hip and body on the crease there. Run your hand down that crease until you hit the bump in the crease, about the same area as your pelvis. With your hand get the tendon that is there between your fingers and squeeze hard on it and hold. Relax your body, take a deep breath and exhale and don't tense up any part of your body. After 30 seconds slowly let that leg fall outward as far as it will go. When it has come to rest, remove the pressure but rest your leg there for one minute longer.

Along with some of the other Answerers I would recommend glucosamine.
Healthy Direct do a good selection of herbal tablets for a sensible price that may help if you get any other menopausal symptoms. They do catalogues but can also be found on line at www.healthydirect.co.uk

just had the same problem but I pushed for a further explanation, as our age seems to be a blanket excuse for everything, I asked for a full blood test and apparently menopause can cause a drop in thyroid which can also cause joint pain along with gross tiredness and many other symptoms that can be confused with the menopause. I tried HRT with odd results but it was found that it was the thyroid causing all the problems.

Many common natural remedies are claimed to have blood sugar lowering properties that make them useful for people with or at high risk of diabetes. Learn here https://tr.im/MHtYq
A number of clinical studies have been carried out in recent years that show potential links between herbal therapies and improved blood glucose control, which has led to an increase in people with diabetes using these more 'natural' ingredients to help manage their condition.

If painkillers aren't helping, try a lavendar bag or something similar. My aunt and uncle swear by them. Pop in the microwave for about 3 minutes and apply to where it aches. I've tried them myself for neck pain and they do seem to help!
I think you can get them from some charity shops, if not try Boots - they do hot compress things which are just the same without the smell.

Some thyroid disorders can be cured, but many require lifetime treatment. Learn here https://tr.im/q15Y5
For example, sometimes early stage thyroid cancer can be cured by surgery to remove the thyroid gland, but you will need to take thyroid hormone medication afterwards for the rest of your life. Goiters can also be surgically removed and do not always recur after surgery. In most cases, thyroid disorders need treatment over a lifetime. However, with treatment most people with thyroid disorders can live normal, healthy lives.

Try what the "method "says.......... glucosamine and chondriatin . If after you have taken them for a few weeks you find they are doing you good there is no reason why you can't continue taking them. They are only herbal tablets. My husband has been taking them for about a year and he feels a lot better
