You know the pad below the keyboard on most modern laptops, I like being able to scroll across the screen but I don't like the feature that allows you to tap the pad to click and prefer to use the buttons. Is it possible to keep the scrolling feature active but deactivate the 'clicking'?

Easy! Next to the clock on your task bar should be an icon saying something pointing device. On mine it's the synaptic pointing device. Single left click on it and you can uncheck the tick that says "tap to click"; double click that icon and it gives you even more stuff you can change including the tap to click. I keep tapping that by mistake - but on one program it's really handy! If the icon isn't next to the clock - it's there somewhere!

Top answer that one... lol

For me, I hold down the function key (it's between the Crtl and Alt keys for me, if it's not there it's the button that says Fn) and the F9 key.

I don't think it's possible, but turning of the mouse pad is helpful when typing. You turn it off and it's off until you turn it on again. Everything will be off; the scrolling feature, the buttons, the clicking with the pad. My laptop me use the touch pad and the buttons underneath. So next time put the cursor right on a link or something and use the buttons to click on it.

Under Control Panel in Windows XP, go to Mouse. Usually the setting will be in there somewhere, although on my notebook computer, it's not. All I have to do is right-click down on the right side of the taskbar on the icon that looks like the mouse pad, and right there is the option to check or uncheck Tap-To-Click.

I never did it before, but I think you will find what you're looking for in the Control Panel. There should be something that says "Keyboard" or "Mouse" or "Touchpad" or some combination of the three. It will then give you a menu where you can adjust things like that, like mouse sensitivity, mouse acceleration, double click speed, etc. You might have better luck finding it if you switch to the classic view (only helpful in Windows XP). Good luck!
