Yes, but where does the person's character and nature come from? Experience, family, culture, luck...?

Herbie,
"Head injury can alter a person`s personality completely and drastically change their future - is that fate or pure dumb luck. "
Maybe I should use the word "life" instead of "fate".
"Your "nature" is not just innate; your parents and early experiences mould it - fate? "
Yes, and some other factors too, I agree and it is why I say "mostly".

No.
person's character and human nature have SOME control.
But human destiny is mostly influenced by other forces of nature: gravity, electricity, nuclear forces control 99.999% of any person;s destiny.
Really gravity of the earth, heat of the sun are things we tend to take for granted but in reality they control most of our destiny.
Really consider heat of the sun lowering SLIGHTLY led to DRAMTIC changes in lives of millions of people:

A person's character and nature is not innate. It is molded by past experiences, education, learned behavior, society's accepted norms, family life, sense of values instilled or upbringing
One's character doesn't determine one's behavior.patterns. The path in life one takes is determined by decisions one makes, course of actions, and the end result or outcome derived from such actions.
Head injury may alter a person's personality esp if the frontal lobe(memory center among other cognitive functions) is involved. This indirectly could change his future from being a vital person to probably a vegetable. Blame it on fate or dumb luck. Or the other person who's responsible for causing the accident.
The ability to choose between good and bad actions or better and best;override and suppress unacceptable social responses, determine the differences and similarities between things or events are all products or compilation of one's s. life experiences.

Partly, except it's not then 'fate'. More importantly, where does the person's character and nature come from? Experience, family, culture, luck...?

I believe it has more to do with how you are parented. Your parents teach you haw to survive in the world. You can have lots of character but if you are taught poor life skills it is very difficult to overcome them. I have been trying for YEARS. I am not living the life my personality and character fit, as much s how I was taught. You can be a good person and still be a failure at life.

there is no such thing as fate. fate is for a weak mind. it is something that can be blamed when some event does not go according to the plan due to various reasons.
