When you look at all the people that answer that their major in college has nothing to do with their jobs now, you have to consider why employers hired them. Most employers appreciate the ability of a person finishing college to receive a degree. It shows a follow through they are looking for in people, a determination and capability. Having a college degree will help you move ahead in regards to promotions, greater chance of achieving higher levels within an organization and also your salary will always be higher than if you did not have a degree.
Today, the philosophy is to encourage people to try different majors, explore more and find their passion. It's true that the more you have a passion for something, the more successful you will be at whatever you do.

At the U.S. Naval Academy in 1979 - 1983, I majored in systems engineering. Not only does that field of study have nothing to do with what I do now, I have never worked a day in my life as a systems engineer. My understanding is that approximately 80 percent of college GRADUATES (and I did graduate, and in the top 23 percent of my class; but only about 50 percent of those who enter college ever graduate, let alone graduate in four years or less) are in the same category as me -- NEVER using their major study field in the world of work. This is to be expected. It is a ringing endorsement of the rapid advance of technology.

Nope, I was an Accounting Major and did an internship and realized that I hated Accounting. Got my degree, but switched to Information Technology and studied on my own. Much happier now. Never did work in accounting.

My college major was "Operations Management." Appropriately, it is a BS degree. I used my degree to get a job as a claims adjuster. I learned nothing in college that helped my career.

Ummm, no. Although it did at one time! In fact, neither my undergraduate degree nor my graduate degree are really in line with my job now! Life changes; things happen; and I finally found what I wanted to do... after going in a bit of a different direction at first!

I majored in English and I'm a technical writer. But before I got work as a technical writer, I worked with people with mental illness, managed a resaurant, worked in a head shop, taught, tutored, worked in a coffee shop, worked with kids with mental retardation and worked as a freelance writer.
I'm living proof that a liberal arts education prepares you for anything (except making a lot of money).

I even have had some super admin. jobs that paid everywhere between 30-40k, finding on your area. they often have sturdy reward and the hours are no longer undesirable. you additionally can look into some artwork-learn for some greater beneficial $$ in case you're polishing off your training. the different suggestion i might have is to no longer supply up on college. you've the skill to get a lot of provides and advice to stay in (and you may desire to pursue selection/person classes interior the night). I went lower back to college and have been given qualified in uncomplicated preparation via fact it would supply me a similar hours/day without work as my teenagers and permit me as plenty time as feasible with them. it rather is not the utmost pay interior the international, even though it rather is a comfortable interest that provides you with time with your toddler (which would be necessary later on). possibly you may desire to pursue a level in music ed.? the roles are not rather as common to get as a customary ed. degree, even though it would desire to be nicely worth a shot via fact it rather is a few thing that pastimes you. specifically, do your terrific to stay healthy and advantageous...shelter your self!
