probably could get away with it, but put yourself in the interviewers shoes.....would YOU hire the guy in jeans, or the guy in business casual with khackis and a polo?

You should always dress nicely for a job interview, even if it's at Walmart. That way you can find out about the policy of casual wear like dress down Fridays. I never worked there. If you dress the part and look professional by dressing nicely, and well groomed, you'll get the job. The only way you can get away of wearing jeans is if you have a nice dress shirt with it with dress shoes like loafers. Good luck!

Nope, most employers, even the younger ones, still find jeans offensive. I once went to a job interview at a convenience store in a tourist town with a winter population of less than a thousand people. I wore "dressy jeans" and a blouse. I didn't get the job and the manager reamed me out for showing up in jeans.

You are not applying for an office job but one in a clothing store. Which means you don't really want to dress like you would go to an office. I would stick to something similar to what you wore before. I would save keep the jacket, add try wearing some more formal slacks and the most important thing is to wear a different colour top.

That depends. You want to send a message that the interview is important to you. You also want the interviewer to know that you are respectful, can adjust to customer needs, and that you respect the company and authority. You need to show that you are willing to work hard, "go the extra mile".
Your nicest pair of creased black (not stonewashed) jeans, might, maybe show this. But slacks, a collared shirt, and tie would definitely send this message. And possibly put you on the fast track to a promotion, too!

My husband works at Walmart and he says that you can wear jeans to an interview, but you may not get to wear jeans if they hire you. In some Walmarts it all depends on what department you work in.

Always, and I repeat ALWAYS dress up for an interview. Doesn't matter where you apply, ALWAYS dress up.
It is very rude and disrespectful to dress down, even if it is walmart. Don't you think you'd stand out if you wore something nice rather then be like everyone else that just wore jeans?

Why risk it? Just wear something professional ALWAYS to a job interview regardless of who the company is. If the dresscode is jeans once you star working there, then that is a complete different story.

You should always dress to impress, regardless of the job. Jeans may be appropriate once you are employed with Wal-Mart, but having done plenty of interviewing, it always was an immediate turn-off when an interviewee came in jeans.
