We definately should not allow 16 year olds to handle 1000-2000 pound missles capable of going close to or over 100 mph. Sorry 16 year olds, but trust me, I'm an insurance agent and see more 16 y.o.s in accidents or killed in accidents than any other age group.

No I don't think they should....I didn't get my license when I was 16 because my parents that it was crazy to let someone that age lose on the road with other people. I could hurt myself and other people.
I think a lot of parents want their children to drive at 16 so they don't have to be tied into being the chauffeur. I'd rather be the chauffeur for a live child then be in a chauffeur-driven car behind a dead one.
What's 2 more years?

Before we put them behind the wheel of a car -we should give them a lot more experience than they get now . I think their permit should start earlier and last longer . They're just not equipped for all that driving entails. It's not their fault , necessarily ; it's ours . Just because the permit expires , does not mean you have to go get the license . Renew the permit . Just because they have all the mechanical skills necessary to drive , does not mean they are ready for every circumstance that crosses their path . I've been to more funerals of 16 & 17 year olds than I care to . One crashed the day she got her license , with 3 other kids in the car . Two made it out with injuries .Two are in the ground .

well iv seen many 16 year olds that act mature but many that are so childish they dont deserve to be called an adult, i think they should be allowed but they are limmited to a low cc car nothing higher than 1.3 and no modifications until they have been driving for a few years with no accident (unless they arnt to blame for an accident)

Amen!!! I could understand starting to teach them how to drive at 16 but not licensing them until 18. The maturity & responsibility levels just seems to get worse as the generations go by.

I honestly think allot of you might not agree with me, but I really think they are giving away license, a little bit early, there are some good young drivers, but some teens can be really irresponsible when it comes to driving, they can be easily influence to race, drive drunk ,play around while driving , does not pay attention to whats around them and most important , sometimes do not wear seat belts, I was an teen once, and young drivers need more than just a crash course , driving is serious business...That's my personal opinion.

I agree with you. There are a few teenagers that are responsible enough to drive safely, but not nearly enough. Most car accidents involve young drivers or the elderly. It would be better safe than sorry.

16 year olds dont seem to be as mature as they were some time ago---even just 10 years ago (in my age :)) But with an ever so busy world I'm sure that parents wont want to cart their children around until they are 18 either. You just cant win...

I know my friend is 15 and a half and she has her permit and she is the best driver I have ever seen! Besides adults get used to it and could care less. The younger you start the better because when you are young you SHOULD be more careful when you drive. I know I will. I think you are crazy.
