I was married for a long time to a man who would not help me with financial things and now I am getting divorced and trying to start over. My credit score is around 537 and I want to improve it and make my life better. What do I do? Where do I begin? I can not even rent a washer and dryer.... I have repossessed cars and other bills. I want to get rid of all this junk but I don't know what to do.

As simplistic as it sounds responsible money management will pay off. Paying your bills on time and not bouncing checks is the only way to repair your credit. Make an appointment with Consumer Credit Counseling Service. The will help you prioritize your spending, provide you with options, and help you recover your good credit.

Good luck!

on condition which you would be able to get the lenders to conform to eliminate the derogatory products out of your credit record. As those are scientific expenditures, you have a stable probability of having them bumped off. Get a written settlement in the previous you pay. in many circumstances, paying derogatory products won't strengthen your score in any respect. the wear and tear is already carried out and could proceed to be on your credit record for the stability of the 7 3 hundred and sixty 5 days reporting era.

First off, do NOT pay money for a credit repair service. Every one of them is a scam, none will do anything you cannot do yourself.

Get a copy of your credit reports from all three reporting companies.
Equifax - http://www.equifax.com/
Experian - http://www.experian.com/
TransUnion - http://www.transunion.com/

Carefully review every item on all three reports. There is a very good chance that there will be false info. If any negative information is inaccurate (such as a late payment listed for the wrong month), dispute it. You can file disputes on-line at the addresses above.

If the ethics of it don't bother you, dispute EVERY negative item whether it's accurate or not.

For every dispute you file, the reporting creditor must provide evidence within 30 days showing that it is accurate, or the credit reporting company must delete the item from your report.

It is very common for credit scores to be artificially low due to inaccurate data on credit reports.
