Im currently taking a Criminal Justice class dealing with ethics. Can anyone tell me a negative aspect for each ethical system:

1.Ethical formalism
2.Utilitarian
3. Ethics of virtue
4. Ethics of care
5. Egoism

As far as the ethics of virtue, one downside is that is makes everything into a balancing test. So, if someone who as done great and wonderful things commits a crime, that small harm is outweighed by the greater good. So the crime is ignored.

But if someone who is mean and heartless, but has never actually broken the law, would be punished much more severely than the average, because the person is not virtuous.

Of course, that system also has the problem of figuring which set of virtues you're going to base it on, since most virtues are defined by moral codes, which in turn are usually religion-based.
