you can see either, but if you plan to become pregnant soon then pick an Ob-Gyn.
first - if you have insurance, make sure they're listed to save money with your copay. also, i always call just to see how their receptionists handle patients. bad signs are never answering the phone, not returning calls, long holds, bad attitdues, misinformation, and/or rushing through everything. i've learned that if the service is bad, then maybe the doctor is too! and considering you spend more time with the help than the doctor dealing with scheduling, questions, and prep work, that can be a pain in itself.
second, decide if you want a female or male as well as any other must have preferences such as a nearby location, flexible hours of operation, the doctor's education, age, race, and even their spoken languages. usually you can go online for that information whether it's their personal website, from their facility/hospital, or your insurance.
third - ask the patients what they think if you know any, or check out the environment where the doctor works on your first visit. is it clean, quiet, and comfortable? is it private, convenient, and up to date in technology, tools, and service? how fast are their test results and do they offer all the services i need? usually your first visit should be for something simple like a regualr check-up or pap smear so you can focus more on answering these questions before making a long term decision.
hope that helps and good luck!

Choose someone you're comfortable with. Be it male or female. Set up an "interview" appointment and see if you like them. It' okay to do that. And as far as the ob-gyn verses the gynecologist, I'd go with the gynecologist. Unless you're planning on getting pregnant. I've noticed that my ob-gyn is very hard to get into now that I'm not pregnant. People who are preggers get preferential treatment over the non pregos. And rightfully so. But if you want to be able to get into your doctor on short notice you might find someone who doesn't specialize in the baby department.

OB-Gyn is good, because you can keep the same doctor if you do end up getting pregnant.
Ask your friends what doctor they go to. Ask them what they like and don't like about the doctor.
Look at the doctor's credentials.
Look at the doctor's experience.
Look for someone trained in high-risk areas.
Look at the doctor's age. The older the doctor is, the longer he or she has been in practice without messing up.

See an obgyn anyway. Just look for someone who makes you feel at ease, and usually a woman does that. Go in and meet them first and decide. It's a very personal decision.

A gynocologist will do - choose someone who has a few years of experience under his or her belt. I prefer males as they seem to be more thorough, however a female would probably be more sympathetic! God bless!

obgyn is short for obstetrics and gynecology
i get references from female companions & ALWAYS see a female gyno... guys may be book smart but they have NO idea what it feels like or how that area can affect women.
