I do think Kanye is slightly above average, but people give him way too much credit. he has not made one beat without sampling it from another song! To me, thats not innovative. People in the South do sample beats, but not as much as northerners do.

With being apart of the two greatest rap albums last year [ Common - Be and Late Registration ], he shouldn't be called overrated at all. Especially with these other trash style bitten mainstream producers running around. Kanye and Blaze def. also played a huge role in Rocafella, and I'm glad they're both branching off to start their own projects. Kanye might not be as innovating as Beethoven, but his work has inspired many producers including myself. Plus, I like how he switched from that Chipmunk styled sampling to another style, because it was being used too much. Whatever though I'm just rambling on, but Rap was started with sampling and DJ Premier has been doing it for years and is still considered one of the best. Just because you hit one note repeatedly on a keyboard and added a three note synth doesn't mean you have more creativity then someone who freaks out a whole disco sample and make it into a Rap Beat. Almost forgot he's bringing conscious Rap mainstream which is a goodlook. Especially when most cats consider Rap ignorant because of songs full of shake that azz and pop bottles of cris.

I would have to agree with you too. Even though he is a successful artist, he is overrated at times. Also today it is very hard to hear NEW music! Everything begins to sound like something else. Even some tracks that sound original are sampled from songs back in the 50's or 60's. Figuring no one will remember the song or at least recognize it, they sample it. Next time you buy a Cd, check the credits. Youll be surprised.

I love Kanye. People talk about him more because of his lyrical content than the actual delivery. Not that I don't love his delivery; I do. But it's more about what he has to say. He's not afraid to talk about real things, and a lotta rappers are. They never get into the substance of what's really going on. Instead they just talk about cars and girls and cristol (or at least they used to, ha).

But yeah, I really do like him... especially because of songs like Jesus Walk and the Blood Diamonds. Some people hate him cause he's a little controversial, but that comes with the territory...

Kanye West is a crazy *****. He has zero talent or originality so he has to get his name in the paper by making racist accusations against the president and claiming that he should be in the Bible.

i think rap in generla is an abomination of a form of music. jazz-good. blues-good. rock-good. rap is a form of pop that is derived from rythms and synthesizers, with rhyme vocals over the top. the same thing as techno with no vocals.
