Hi
I'm assuming that they're your CD/DVD drives(?) It sounds like a hardware problem.
If you feel confident you could open the computer case and check the IDE cable from the motherboard to the drives is securely plugged in.
If both drives don't show and they're on the same IDE channel then it could indicate that the problem is either with the cable or even your motherboard.
If you're not confident you know what you're doing inside the computer case, I'd advise going to a reputable technnician as there are a number of things that could cause this problem.
If it's intermittent it's unlikely to be a software/operating system issue.

I had this happen to me a few weeks ago after I installed a new DVD reader/writer so if you have made any changes then this could apply, my jumper on one drive was set to Cable Select and the other to Master, it would see the Master all of the time, and cable select sometimes.

All I did was change the jumper to Slave from Cable select and I now have a working CD writer.

Hi there!!!

To get your E and F drives back...I assume these are your cd or dvd drives, you need to make a few changes to the registry.

First remember to Back up the registry
To back up the registry:
1. Start Registry Editor,by Clicking Start-- run-- type regedit. click ok.

2. Click on the File, click export and select the save in location as desktop.

To manually delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters registry values, follow these steps:
1. Start Registry Editor .Click Start-- run-- type regedit. click ok.

2. Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

3. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

4. Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

5. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

6. Quit Registry Editor.

Best of Luck!!!!!!!!!!
