Although Hurricane Katrina was a U.S. natural disaster I think it's amazing what a hurricane can do to such a city (New Orleans). Other major hurricanes, although they have caused a great loss of life, are awesome to analyze as they are heading toward landfall. I might be crazy but I just love hurricanes.

You sound like my meteorology professor. That's why he got his master's in climatology. It is pretty awe-inspiring that nature can cook up something that enormous. I was in Baton Rouge for Katrina and Rita, and I remember Andrew dropping enough rain to make the hill our house is on look like an island, and while I am saddened by the damage that the storm caused, I remember having this strange sense of awe as I was looking out the window during the storm. And it's interesting watching the paths they can take over water and how they are fueled. Gee, I guess that's why I majored in geography! You may want to look into meteorology as a career if you are that interested in hurricanes.

I think it is in the phenomenon of weather that takes hold of people. My family is full of weather fanatics. In my home, most of us watch the programs on the weather channel. Watching the weather (all types) is a wonderful education.

I was in a hurricane in FL. While it was sad to think we might lose all our belongings - leaving our house and hoping for the best - it was strangely an exciting adventure. Although if we had lost everything, I'm sure I would have changed my mind about that....

I think there are plenty of people who are crazy about hurricanes....and tornadoes and thunderstorms and tsunamis etc, etc. Otherwise, the Weather Channel wouldn't see the value of producing their educational programs on this subject.

Have you been through one? Yeah, real fun, especially when you're expecting a category 1 and a half hour later it's a cat 4, wondering if your house is gonna stay put, thinking damn I think we should've evacuated, but it's too late now because the only way out is over bridges, watching as the water rises up to your house and trying to remember just how high is the elevation your house was built on, and hoping it's high enough from the storm surge. You can have em...........

if you want to see some really cool hurricanes check out hurricanes in the eastern pacific (also known as typhoons).

i'm a meteorologist and used to forecast for the eastern pacific and i've seen some strange things happen when super typhoons make landfall on countries such as japan.

those of us who are obsessed with weather refer to ourselves as "weather weenies." congrats for joining our rankings :)

Yeah the wonders of mother nature. One minute you have a great beach property and view, days later its all gone wiped away to sea. Dont look at New Orleans about Katrina that was do to floodgates not doing their job. Look at Biloxi and Gulfport....Its GONE.

I wonder if you have ever had to sit in a trailer; because you had no way to evacuate , in the dark because the power went out 17 hours ago...while the windows have been blown out because the winds are howling at 103 miles per hour.... as your roof gets peeled off...come stay in florida for the hurricane season...WE WELCOME YOU

You wouldn't be saying that if it ripped you roof of and took your parents, would you? Is a great loss of life just a means to get an awesom analyzation of it by you?
