You only really hear about this happening in the Gulf and rarely on the East Coat (Atlantic Ocean) or the West Coast (Pacific Ocean).
I know the storms form in the ocean but seem to have an affinity for the Gulf coast region.

Most tropical waves form off the coast of Africa and are pulled westward by the wind currents.The circulation of the ocean works in conjunction w/ the jet stream to steer large storms. These storms are likely to follow those currents unless dissipated by an apposing weather front.

Because the storms usually form off of the West Coast of Africa, and move westward or northwestward depending on what latitude they form in. The ones that form above 10º North generally hit the East coast and the ones that form below 10º North hit either Mexico or the Gulf.

The gulf of Mexico has very heat and temperate waters. Making it greater elementary for hurricanes and tropical storms to form, and get greater. this is why i might by no skill stay in Louisiana, undesirable state! this is already undesirable adequate right here in Florida. ;) desire I helped! -Jess!

they follow the general path of the gulf stream where the water is ALOT warmer which fuels the energy of the storm, that is unless an upper level "cold" / front cuts it down or steers it in a different direction.

the storms are cause bye tempurature....and the gulf as we all know is as close as you get to tropical in N.A. so thats were the storm is gonna enter

It depends on jet streams and currents and all that weatherological type of stuff.
